About the Role
JSL is seeking a Photographer / Content Producer that captures, edits, and preserves technical, business, and photojournalistic images to communicate NSWC Corona’s mission, achievements, and stories. This role combines advanced photography, storytelling, video production, and motion graphics skills to produce compelling visual content for internal and external audiences.
The candidate will be responsible for the following:
- Photography & Image Production
- Capture portraits, events, and operational activities using professional still camera systems, including Canon EOS and equivalent.
- Conduct studio photography using strobe lighting setups, available light, and modifiers to achieve national magazine-quality images.
- Photograph on-location events and meetings in controlled and uncontrolled environments, adapting to variable lighting conditions using portable strobes, power packs, and reflectors.
- Create artistic imagery for technical illustrations, marketing materials, and various publication mediums.
- Storytelling & Captioning
- Use industry-level storytelling techniques to compose images that effectively communicate complex technical and organizational concepts.
- Collaborate with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to develop accurate, informative captions that simplify technical information for diverse audiences.
- Ensure all content aligns with organizational messaging, branding, and Navy/DoD communication standards.
- Video Production & Editing
- Assist in the production and editing of national broadcast-level videos, including documentaries, human-interest features, news minutes, commercials, sizzle reels, narratives, short-form social media content, and other promotional materials.
- Utilize Canon EOS Cinema systems and industry-standard workflows to capture high-quality footage.
- Collaborate with video production teams to ensure consistency in visual storytelling and narrative flow.
- Motion Graphics & Illustration
- Design and produce motion graphics, visual effects, and illustrations for video productions, including commercials, sizzle reels, social media videos, films, and documentaries.
- Apply creative, industry-standard techniques in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, Lightroom, Bridge) to support professional-level deliverables.
- Collaboration & Project Support
- Work closely with PAO staff, video producers, and SMEs to plan shoots, storyboard visual content, and schedule production tasks.
- Contribute to creative brainstorming, pre-production, and post-production reviews to optimize content quality and alignment with organizational objectives.
- Compliance & Documentation
- Maintain organized digital asset libraries with appropriate metadata, security markings, and access controls.
- Ensure all visual content complies with DoD security, copyright, and Navy communication policies.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in photography, Visual Communications, Multimedia, or related field.
- Minimum five years of Photography, Visual Communications, Multimedia experience.
- Professional experience with Canon EOS still and cinema cameras, studio lighting, and portable strobes.
- Advanced proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, Lightroom, Bridge, After Effects, and Illustrator.
- Strong visual storytelling skills with the ability to translate technical or complex subjects into engaging imagery.
- Experience producing content for multiple platforms, including video, social media, and print.
Desired Skills
- Knowledge of Navy/DoD public affairs and media standards.
- Experience with multimedia production, cinematography, and motion graphics.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects under tight deadlines, and adapt to dynamic environments.
- Strong interpersonal skills for conducting interviews, collaborating with SMEs, and coordinating production efforts.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
- Travel to various facilities, and to field events may be required.
- Ability to carry and operate camera equipment and lighting kits.
- Work in both office and field environments, sometimes in challenging lighting or environmental conditions.
Security Clearance
Applicants must have an active security clearance and/or the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance as specified in the minimum qualifications. Selected candidates will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements to obtain a DoD government-granted security clearance.
