Police Communication Specialist (Finance)

The primary purpose of this position is to provide all communications for USF Police and Public Safety personnel in their day-to-day activities. The role requires 24/7 staffing.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, with at least one year of relevant experience. College coursework or vocational training may substitute for experience at an equivalent rate.
  • Must pass the FCIC/NCIC certification course within 6 months and maintain certification thereafter.
  • Within six months of hire, must obtain a Department of Health 911 Telecommunications Certification and maintain it thereafter.

FLSB1310 Equivalency:

  • 4 years of relevant experience can substitute for a bachelor's degree.
  • 6 years of relevant experience can substitute for a master's degree.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current certification as a State of Florida 911 Public Safety Telecommunicator.
  • Three or more years of experience as a Public Safety Telecommunicator for law enforcement or emergency operations.
  • State certification on NCIC/FCIC computer system.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Monitor field activities of law enforcement officers and dispatch them efficiently to emergency and service calls.
  • Input and transmit call information, check records, and coordinate responses with other emergency services.
  • Operate and monitor various emergency and security systems, including 911 systems, FCIC/NCIC, and university security systems.
  • Dispatch security officers, respond to alarms, and assist with campus event scheduling and emergency coordination.
  • Review and disseminate criminal and confidential information, and assist visitors at the police department front desk.
  • Enter and evaluate data in Computer Aided Dispatch and assist in training new dispatchers.
  • Perform additional duties such as monitoring other agency channels, supporting special events, and providing budget input for equipment.
