Position Summary

This position is responsible for providing trauma-informed support, advocacy and resources to survivors who have been affected by sexual assault, sexual harassment, dating or domestic violence and stalking. The RSVP Advocate will assist survivors in scheduling forensic exams, law enforcement/title IX interviews, hearings, with academic and/or housing accommodations, and connect the student to campus and community resources. This role also serves on the on-call advocate crisis response team for the UGA campus and facilitates prevention programs directed at reducing interpersonal violence on campus.

Responsibilities

  • Advocacy and Prevention: Maintain knowledge of current literature and best practices regarding sexual assault and interpersonal violence; provide advocacy-based support to students affected by interpersonal violence; collaborate with HP team to inform response services; participate in on-call advocacy rotation as needed; serve as a campus resource and referral point.
  • Case Management and Referrals: Provide case management and advocacy through the judicial conduct process; train faculty, staff and students in responding to reports of sexual violence; coordinate referrals to campus and community resources; collaborate with partners to meet survivor needs.
  • Policy and Compliance: Consult on campus policies and procedures related to sexual violence; ensure services align with campus, state and federal guidelines; maintain confidentiality and professional standards.
  • Outreach and Collaboration: Develop relationships with campus and community partners; deliver high-quality education with clarity and empathy; co-facilitate intervention programs and other educational initiatives; participate in committees and task forces as needed.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience and 2 years of professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • UHC Minimum: Master’s degree in Counseling or Social Work, Public Health or related field; 3–5 years’ experience with sexual assault victims; 3–5 years’ experience in group training, public speaking, and facilitation.
  • UHC Preferred: Certified 40-hour Sexual Assault Advocacy Training or equivalent; ability to complete required trainings within specified timelines; three years of direct social service experience with knowledge of sexual violence, domestic violence, women’s issues, and working with families in crisis; strong group facilitation, crisis management, and trauma-informed presentation skills.
  • Experience in case management, confidential victim advocacy, and education/outreach initiatives in a higher education setting.
  • Knowledge of Safe Harbor concepts and experience with campus violence resources; background in working with domestic violence or sexual assault victim advocacy services; strong communication and collaboration skills.

  • Interpersonal & Communication: Strong listening, written and verbal communication; ability to establish rapport in difficult situations; service-oriented mindset.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Office; ability to learn new systems; social media outreach capabilities.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Ability to transport light equipment across campus and offsite locations; ability to sit for extended periods. Driving is not a requirement for this position. This role involves direct interaction with individuals under stress and may involve high-stress situations.
