ELECTRONIC TECHNICIAN - VIDEO SYSTEMS

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

Under general supervision, Equipment Repair Shop Supervisor, performs a variety of electronic and electro-mechanical diagnostic and repair procedures in the field and at the bench. Technical responsibilities include the design, installation and maintenance of Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) systems, and Radio Frequency (RF) distribution systems and the repair and maintenance of a wide variety of televisions, monitors, video cassette recorders, video projectors and related video equipment. Incumbent performs related work as required.

EXEMPLARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Analyzes equipment failures; repairs and performs periodic and preventive maintenance on a wide variety of video equipment such as televisions, monitors, and video-cassette recorders; designs and engineers television cable distribution systems; utilizes electronic diagnostic equipment, monitors, wiring diagrams and schematics to diagnose problems and make necessary safety adjustments.

Orders and maintains inventory of related parts, supplies and materials; estimates material and labor costs; maintains library of technical and repair manuals; prepares and maintains operational records and reports; acts as technical resource for the operation and minor maintenance of video equipment. May provide technical training to District personnel in proper usage of video and related equipment.

May be required to physically perform AHERA Class III disturbances to asbestos containing building materials as directed in accordance with all applicable federal, state and local regulations. May be required to physically perform OSHA lead remediation in accordance with all applicable federal, state and local regulations. May be required to physically perform mold remediation in accordance with all applicable federal, state and local regulations.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

Education/Experience: Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be:

  1. Education: Five (5) years of varied electronic experience in the operation, repair and service of video and related electronic equipment;
OR
  1. Equivalent to completion of an apprenticeship program from an approved trade or technical school in video repair and electronics;
AND
  1. Experience: Three (3) years of varied experience in the operation, repair and service of video and related electronic equipment.

Knowledge of: Electrical, electronic and electro-mechanical theory; application techniques, procedures, and tools used in the maintenance and repair of a wide variety of video monitors, television receivers, sound amplifiers and tuners, modulated radio frequencies, cable systems, film and projection equipment; National Television System Committee (NTSC) standards; Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) standards; applicable Federal Communication Commission (FCC) rules and regulations; National Electrical Code (NEC) standards; and occupational hazards and safety precautions.

Skill at: Working independently; basic computer skills; diagnosing and performing preventative maintenance and repair work on electronic and electro-mechanical audio-visual equipment; working with a variety of electronic testing and diagnostic equipment; utilizing hand, power, soldering and welding tools required for repair and part fabrications; reading, interpreting and following mechanical and electrical drawings, technical manuals, wiring diagrams, logic diagrams, flow charts, timing and specification sheets; observing safety practices; understanding and carrying out oral and written instructions; making estimates of materials and labor costs; obtaining project quotes from vendors; preparing and maintaining related operational records and reports; performing heavy manual labor; handling a variety of work orders and completing work on schedule; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Special Requirements: Applicants will be required to pass physical and full mask or half mask respirator fit test( if able) under this requirement, the employee may not be able to have certain facial hair, like beard, long sideburns or mustache that may interfere with the passing of the fit test. Employee will be required to do attachment and penetration of asbestos and lead containing materials.May be called upon on off-hours for school emergencies, such as burglaries, vandalism, fires, snow removal, equipment failures, flooding, etc.

Licenses/Certifications: Possession of a valid Nevada State Operators license with a driving record acceptable to the district.

Certification: AHERA sixteen (16) hour asbestos training. Asbestos certification will be required within the first 12 months of employment. Employer will provide training.

Certification: OSHA Lead Action eight (8) hour Training. Certification willbe required within the first 12 months of employment. Employer will provide training.

Physical Demands: This work requires considerable and strenuous physical exertion, such as frequently climbing of tall ladders, lifting heavy objects over 60 pounds, pushing balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or reaching, crawling in restricted areas. . Must have the ability to enter all areas of a facility including attics and crawl spaces. To some extent, the frequency or intensity of physical exertion must also be considered.

Temporary employees working less than 6 months do not receive benefits.

New employees will be fingerprinted upon hire and every five years thereafter and will have $58.50 deducted from their first paycheck to help defray the cost of fingerprinting. Non-licensed employees will have $58.50 deduction when their fingerprints are completed every five years. Fingerprint fees are subject to change. Your job offer is conditional until a report is returned from the FBI and Nevada Department of Public Safety that meets the standards of WCSD for employment purposes.
