Overview
Electronic Technician - Video Systems (40 hrs./wk., 260 days). Under general supervision, Equipment Repair Shop Supervisor, performs a variety of electronic and electro-mechanical diagnostic and repair procedures in the field and at the bench. Technical responsibilities include the design, installation and maintenance of CCTV systems, and RF distribution systems and the repair and maintenance of televisions, monitors, video cassette recorders, video projectors and related video equipment. Incumbent performs related work as required.
Exemplary Duties / Responsibilities
- Analyzes equipment failures; repairs and performs periodic and preventive maintenance on a wide variety of video equipment such as televisions, monitors, and video-cassette recorders; designs and engineers television cable distribution systems; utilizes electronic diagnostic equipment, monitors, wiring diagrams and schematics to diagnose problems and make necessary safety adjustments.
- Orders and maintains inventory of related parts, supplies and materials; estimates material and labor costs; maintains library of technical and repair manuals; prepares and maintains operational records and reports; acts as technical resource for the operation and minor maintenance of video equipment. May provide technical training to District personnel in proper usage of video and related equipment.
- May be required to perform AHERA Class III disturbances to asbestos containing materials and lead/mold remediation as directed per regulations.
Employment Standards
Education/Experience: Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and skills. Typical requirements:
- Education: Five (5) years of varied electronic experience in the operation, repair and service of video and related electronic equipment;
- or Equivalent to completion of an apprenticeship program from an approved trade or technical school in video repair and electronics;
- Experience: Three (3) years of varied experience in the operation, repair and service of video and related electronic equipment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of electrical, electronic and electro-mechanical theory; NTSC, SMPTE, FCC rules, NEC standards; and safety precautions. Skills in diagnosing and repairing electronic and electro-mechanical AV equipment; reading technical manuals, wiring diagrams, etc.; estimating materials and labor; working independently; and establishing effective working relationships.
Special Requirements
Applicants may be required to pass physical and respirator fit tests; asbestos and lead exposure requirements may apply. May be called on for off-hours emergencies (e.g., burglaries, vandalism, fires, equipment failures, etc.).
Licenses / Certifications
Possession of a valid Nevada State Operator's license with acceptable driving record. Certification: AHERA 16-hour asbestos training (within first 12 months). OSHA Lead Action 8-hour training (within first 12 months). Employer provided training.
Physical Demands
This work requires considerable physical exertion, including climbing ladders, lifting heavy objects (60+ pounds), and navigating confined spaces. Must be able to access all areas of facilities, including attics and crawl spaces.
