Overview The Marathon Petroleum Company is seeking a Designer/Drafter to support its Kenai Refinery located in Kenai, Alaska. The Designer is responsible for updating unit P&IDs, PFDs, piping isometric drawings, electrical and instrumentation drawings, instrument datasheets, instrument loops, piping, mechanical and electrical design work, creating construction drawings for capital and expense projects and updating drawings for PSM compliance using CAD or a combination of SI software/hardware in accordance with the established engineering standard. This position is located in Kenai, AK and reports to the Area Engineering Manager.
Responsibilities Create and complete updates to unit P&IDs, PFDs, piping isometric drawings for fabrication of piping systems, electrical systems, structural components for new construction, repair, replacing, and repositioning of equipment, with minimal technical direction from project leaders and other technical experts.
Support overall coordination of all engineering controlled and non-controlled document best practices. Maintain design and construction documentation in electronic and physical formats, as necessary.
Support engineering department with designer level support.
Support Document Control with document maintenance, indexing and electronic filing.
Support Document Control process and systems to ensure control, availability, and reproduction of documentation to personnel.
Support project development with drawing check-out and revision control. Update returned drawings by incorporating as-built redlines and close assigned Management of Change (MOC) tasks.
Support Document Control with document location and distribution process, providing requestor reports and drawings.
Support maintaining an Electronic Document Management System (EDMS) for a variety of electronic technical documents such as engineering drawings, equipment files, and project documents.
Assist Document Control with supporting onsite and contract engineering personnel for capital and expense projects. Check-out and check-in documentation electronically filed in EDMS. Use EDMS for easy identification and retrieval of newly added Unit Assets and ensure control and availability of documentation to personnel.
Support facilitating site SharePoint and SharePoint Online External File Share. Maintain Engineering SharePoint site when updates are required. Provide access to specific SharePoint folders for electronic file collaboration, sharing, upload and download.
Acquire data by communicating with internal and external stakeholders, visiting project sites, conducting field walks, and reviewing historical drawings. Field visits may involve obtaining precise measurements, verifying dimensions, supporting as-building of existing documentation, and providing field design services for projects.
Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED (education completed prior to start date).
At least 2 years of design and drafting experience in a refinery, petrochemical or related industry.
Experience using AutoCAD.
Strong verbal and written communication, organizational, time management and interpersonal skills.
Ability to manage workload, prioritize multiple projects, and adapt to changing priorities with minimal supervision.
Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and SharePoint.
Ability to read and interpret colored markings on documents.
Ability to wear PPE in the refinery, perform field tasks, and pass hair drug test and physical.
Valid driver’s license.
Steady employment history and ability to obtain a TWIC Card.
Legally authorized to work in the US without visa sponsorship.
Travel is 5% or less.
Ability to work one of the available schedules (9/80 or 5/40); after-hours calls required a couple times a year and TAR support once every three years. Core hours: 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM.
Preferred Qualifications Experience with Electronic Document Management System (EDMS).
Associate degree in Drafting or related field.
Drafting experience in refining or petrochemical industry.
Electrical and Instrumentation drafting and design experience.
Experience with MicroStation.
Knowledge of applicable codes and standards (e.g., OSHA, ANSI/ASME Y14.5).
Experience with drafting instrument and electrical specifications, including loop diagrams, PLC and DCS control systems.
Experience with piping isometric drawings.
