  • Lead and manage staff and freelance cinematographers, ensuring they are adhering to the WSJ Video style guide and lookbook for all projects.
  • Mentor and train staff video journalists, senior video journalists, and cinematographers to build and improve skill sets for all shoots.
  • Conceptually develop visual look and style for all platforms including social and vodcasts.
  • Travel frequently into the field for shoots across the globe.
  • Develop new cinematography best practices as needed.
  • Foster a supportive growth environment that encourages creativity and development.
  • Have excellent communication skills to work with both staff and freelancers on multiple projects, sometimes simultaneously.
  • Work closely with production management and editorial leads to ensure shoot costs are kept in line with budget.
  • Complete additional duties as assigned, including breaking news assignments.
  • Ensure the top‑tier execution and ethical standards of The Wall Street Journal are consistently met: that work is of impeccable quality across all platforms, and that The Journal's codes of conduct and overall Standards & Ethics rules are scrupulously met.

You Have

  • At least 10 years relevant experience as a Director of Photography, working globally on stories covering a broad range of topics.
  • An ambitious portfolio of outstanding video work.
  • A proven track record of motivating teams, fostering new talent, and mentoring and teaching on shooting style and best practices.
  • Excellent time‑management and prioritization skills, juggling shoots and logistics.
  • Budget management experience.
  • Passion and creativity for telling video stories in innovative ways, and a desire to constantly push the creative envelope.
  • Strong relationships in the cinematography community are preferred.
