Job Description

Utility Design Technician – primary liaison between customers, construction teams, and utility providers. Design facilities using GIS-based Design Manager, ensuring compliance with engineering standards and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret construction drawings such as one-lines, mechanical, and plumbing to define project scope.
  • Manage multiple projects from start to finish, tracking progress and ensuring timely completion.
  • Coordinate with engineers, project managers, and internal teams to move projects forward.
  • Secure permits and easements as needed for construction.
  • Execute contracts and agreements in line with administrative and regulatory guidelines.
  • Provide accurate cost estimates and create work orders using SAP for construction teams.
  • Attend occasional field visits, approximately 10% of the time, with senior designers or leads to assess project sites.
  • Participate in on-site meetings with clients to determine project requirements.

Qualifications

  • Strong technical aptitude with experience in design software, GIS, or graphic design.
  • Ability to learn new systems and tools quickly.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Self‑motivated and adaptable to changing priorities.
  • Strong communication skills for customer coordination.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; an associate or bachelor’s degree in design, construction, or a related field is preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Working knowledge of GIS or similar mapping software is required.
  • Experience working in SAP platform is preferred.
  • Previous utility design experience is a plus.
  • Experience working with underground utilities is a plus.
  • Interest in joining the energy industry.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and vehicle.

Work Environment

This role offers two paths: Developer‑Driven Design and Wildfire Design Team. In the Developer‑Driven Design path you will coordinate directly with clients and construction teams to design gas and electric systems for new developments. The Wildfire Design Team path is internally focused, supporting wildfire safety projects with a more technical focus without customer interaction. The position is based in our modern Dove Valley, CO office (15 miles south of Denver), where you will work in‑office five days a week. Flexible start times are available after training, between 6:30 AM and 8:30 AM, and the schedule includes a 1.5‑hour lunch and two 15‑minute breaks daily.
