Position Overview

The School of Continuing Education and Professional Development seeks talented and passionate instructors to teach courses in Creative Arts and Leisure, including Fashion, Acting, and Visual Arts. These classes provide personal enrichment and hands-on learning for adult learners interested in exploring or deepening their creative pursuits.

What you will be doing

  • Teach non-credit leisure courses in the creative arts, including fashion, acting, and the visual arts. Foster creativity and self-expression in adult learners through hands-on instruction.
  • Create and implement engaging, project-based curricula in the assigned subject area.
  • Provide instruction that fosters creativity, skill development, and self-expression.
  • Encourage collaborative learning through discussions, critiques, and workshops.
  • Offer individualized feedback and guidance to support student growth.
  • Maintain a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Track student participation and outcomes.
  • Integrate relevant software, tools, and historical/theoretical frameworks as appropriate.
  • Coordinate exhibitions, performances, or showcases when applicable.
  • Maintain instructional supplies and materials.
  • Collaborate with program staff on course offerings and improvements.
  • Adapt instruction to suit a wide range of creative experience levels.
  • Organize exhibitions, performances, or presentations when applicable.
  • Incorporate relevant history, theory, and techniques into teaching.
  • Utilize multimedia tools and creative software when appropriate.
  • Collaborate with peers or program leaders on course development and improvement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What you need to succeed

Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, Performing Arts, Fashion Design, or related field; significant professional experience may substitute.

  • Demonstrated expertise and professional experience in the subject area.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate adult learners.
  • Knowledge of art/design theory, creative practices, and trends in the field.
  • Ability to design and implement project-based, experiential learning.
  • Excellent facilitation and presentation skills for diverse adult learners.
  • Familiarity with tools, materials, or software specific to the discipline.
  • Ability to cultivate an inclusive, inspiring learning environment.
  • Understanding of adult learning strategies in recreational education.
  • Organizational skills for managing studio, class, or performance logistics.
  • Creativity, flexibility, and enthusiasm for lifelong learning.

Preferences

  • Previous teaching or workshop facilitation experience preferred.
