  • Job Scope: To provide specialized non-professional library skills within a technical services or public services unit of the University library or in a departmental library. Responsible for performing non-professional duties requiring operational skills and basic knowledge of library practices and procedures.

Description of Duties

  • Assists patrons with library electronic databases and search tools including online catalog.
  • Assists patrons with check-in and check-out of library books and equipment.
  • Performs bibliographic verification for ordering, cataloging, and interlibrary loan.
  • Responsible for processing orders and cancellations.
  • Processes library books and periodicals.
  • Assists at reference or service desk.
  • Maintains library shelves in proper order and assists patrons in locating materials.
  • Assists patrons with use of library equipment.
  • Receives mail and shipments.
  • Evaluates and handles patron inquiries and complaints.
  • Inputs data into databases and spreadsheets.
  • Assists librarians in gathering information.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Education

  • N/A

Licenses/Certifications

  • None.

Required Experience

  • Two (2) years of general office related experience.

Preferred Experience

  • Two (2) years of library experience.

Equipment & Working Conditions

  • Office Environment; some travel and weekend work is required. Must be able to stoop and reach in order to lift books to stock shelves, lift boxes of books and other library materials, and push carts and dollies loaded with library materials.
  • Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Ability to assist patrons with library electronic databases and search tools including online catalog. Must possess good writing, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to work with library Millennium system and Library of Congress classification system.
