Job Title
Web Designer/Developer
Overview
This position assists the College Web Services team with designing, developing, maintaining, and troubleshooting the official College Web site using the College’s Content Management System (CMS) and a variety of applications and programming languages.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Take requests from NOVA departments to design, develop, and update pages of the NOVA website using the CMS.
- Use various applications and programming languages to maintain and troubleshoot the NOVA website.
- Create and run build tools, install, upgrade, and test the CMS and related applications.
- Assist with maintenance, upgrades, and troubleshooting of the NOVA servers.
- May be required to perform other duties as assigned and to assist the agency or state government during an emergency declaration by the Governor.
Qualifications and KSAs
- Knowledge of website design for marketing purposes.
- Programming proficiency in HTML, XML, CSS, SQL, ASP.NET, and JavaScript.
- Knowledge of SEO (search engine optimization).
- Ability to troubleshoot and optimize web pages for security and responsiveness.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Ability to work and thrive in a fast‑paced environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Solution‑oriented and high‑level programming skills.
- Ability to pick up new technologies quickly.
- Ability to work well in a group and take direction.
Minimum Work Experience
- Experience in web application development and web design.
- Experience with web tools and design software (CMS, Adobe Creative Suite).
- Experience using brand guidelines.
- Experience in UX/UI (user experience/user interface) design.
- Experience in Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).
Additional Considerations
- Experience with Cascade content management system (CMS).
- Experience in website analytical tools.
- Experience using PDF remediation software such as Adobe Acrobat Pro, AxesPDF, PAC Checker.
