The Wall Street Journal is seeking an accomplished journalist to serve as Deputy Corporate Editor, a key leadership position supporting one of the Journal’s most vital coverage areas.

In this role, you will help steer the Journal’s coverage of major corporate sectors—including manufacturing, autos, aviation, retail, food, agriculture, workplace issues and health. You will work closely with the Corporate Editor to guide coverage that explains how business decisions and industry trends shape people’s lives, economies, and societies.

To thrive in this role, you’ll need a deep understanding of the business world—from startups to multinationals—and a strong grasp of the health sector, including pharmaceuticals, healthcare delivery, biotechnology, and policy. You’ll combine editorial judgment and management skill with an ability to drive distinctive, high-impact journalism across digital and print platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Corporate Editor to set and execute the long-term coverage strategy for corporate news and health.
  • Help manage the daily news flow across key corporate beats, ensuring timely, sharp, and creative coverage.
  • Lead and mentor a team of reporters, editors, and bureau chiefs, fostering excellence, collaboration, and innovation.
  • Work across newsroom teams to deliver ambitious, distinctive journalism for digital and print audiences.
  • Champion new storytelling formats and digital approaches that engage readers in fresh ways.

Qualifications

  • At least 10 years of experience managing reporters or editors in a major newsroom.
  • Deep knowledge of corporate news, leadership, and strategy—and familiarity with the health and health care industries.
  • A proven record of leading exclusive and enterprise reporting.
  • Exceptional editorial judgment and a commitment to the highest standards of journalism.
  • The ability to think strategically and execute decisively in a fast-moving news environment.

Pay Range: $185,000 - $220,000
