About the College/Unit/Department

Division of Development and Alumni Relations The Division advances the goals of the university by generating private financial support, building and maintaining relationships with alumni and donors, and assisting students with career development opportunities. Development and Alumni Relations’ Office of Communications We serve as an in-house marketing agency for the DAR division. We plan, design mailers, build websites, write, film, photograph, tweet, and more. We collaborate with the Marketing & Communications division to help further the UGA brand and strive to reach audiences with creativity and data-driven insights. We aim to help every DAR unit achieve its goals.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least 1-2 years of work experience in marketing, communications, or public relations.
  • Experience in a role that requires frequent/heavy writing for media, social, web or print materials.
  • Experience in media relations, digital advertising, email marketing and/or social marketing.
  • Ability to manage 20+ writing assignments with varying deadlines.
  • Knowledge of AP Style writing.
  • Understanding of SEO writing.
  • Experience with graphic design and/or design programs.
  • Experience with WordPress and content management.
  • Experience in higher education and/or fundraising.
  • Experience in PR or marketing agency.
  • Experience in project management or developing timelines.

Position Summary

The employee develops and implements marketing and public relations efforts for DAR within the Office of Communications. The team of 15-20 staff produces communications and marketing materials to support alumni engagement, fundraising, and career development. The employee leads content creation for copy and content for websites, news releases, emails, social media, blogs, scripts, publications, and direct mail. Responsibilities include research, interviews, producing on-brand final deliverables, and collaborating with designers, videographers, writers, and web developers to review work for quality and accuracy.

Duties/Responsibilities

Deliver on-brand written content in pursuit of unit, division, and university goals.

  • Develop high-quality content for copy such as news releases, websites, emails, social media, blogs, scripts, publications, and direct mail.
  • Collaborate with DARCOMM colleagues to enhance content with visuals.
  • Ensure content and final products follow AP Style, are factually correct, reflect the UGA brand, and support DAR/UGA goals.
  • Master the UGA brand voice and tone for various sub-brands and channels.
  • Customize content to channels (web, email, social, print, events, advertising).
  • Develop relationships across the division and campus; use constituent data for accurate profiles.
  • Interview subjects to gain background and quotes; follow up for reviews and approvals.
  • Craft persuasive language to engage audiences with the university’s value.
  • Ensure content is reviewed and shared with appropriate audiences.
  • Follow timelines and DARCOMM workflow; use project management system.
  • Prioritize projects and foster cross-team collaboration.
  • Collaborate with creative, communications and digital colleagues.
