NEWS REPORTER/PRODUCER (MMJ) - WMTV role at Gray Media

Responsibilities

  • Produce weekend evening newscasts and report for three days as an MMJ.
  • Work independently with a sense of immediacy and collaborate as a team.
  • Develop unique community sources and find impactful stories behind press releases and news tips.
  • Write and post daily copy on all digital platforms, including wmtv15news.com, social media, the news app, the digital desk, and the television newscasts.
  • Execute a daily digital plan, identify live‑stream opportunities on the website, and deliver breaking news to the News Now Desk.
  • Produce engaging, error‑free work and understand the DMA, key target audiences, and where they live.
  • Innovate and evolve practices, reflect on work, and apply feedback.
  • Opportunity to grow into anchoring and back up veteran team members when on vacation.

Qualifications

  • College degree in journalism or related field preferred, and at least one year of newsroom or digital producing experience.
  • Desire to win, positive attitude, and ability to reflect on work and apply feedback.
  • Strong research and critical thinking skills to dig beyond press releases and confirm incoming news tips.
  • Works quickly, multitasks under deadline pressure and breaking news.
  • Willingness to work long hours, weekends, and overnights for breaking news and specialized coverage.
  • Established presence on digital platforms, including station website, social media, and streaming.
  • Working knowledge of CMS and digital platforms, including ARC, Social News Desk, and CrowdTangle; Photoshop experience is a plus.
  • Understanding and adherence to AP Style.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
