Merced College, a community college in California’s Central Valley, invites applications for a part‑time instructional assignment in the English and Humanities Department under the guidance of the Dean of English and Humanities. General Description
This role focuses on teaching a range of communication courses, developing curriculum, and engaging in departmental and campus activities. Responsibilities include maintaining learning management systems, meeting assessment standards, and fostering an inclusive learning environment.
Duties
- Provide innovative instruction aligned with current pedagogy and course expectations.
- Inform students about course requirements, evaluation procedures, attendance policies, and maintain substantive contact.
- Maintain required student attendance and scholastic records on the Learning Management System.
- Utilize the Learning Management System to deliver, prepare, and grade assignments and examinations.
- Employ effective instructional design, applications, and methods.
- Offer regular office hours as per policy.
- Participate in curriculum development and review.
- Produce and review teaching–learning materials.
- Contribute to departmental, area, and campus professional activities and committees.
- Represent Merced College within the community and professional circles.
- Engage in the college’s learning outcomes assessment program.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in speech, broadcasting, telecommunications, rhetoric, communication studies, or a related field from an accredited institution.
- Alternatively, a Bachelor’s degree in the same area plus a Master’s in drama, theater arts, mass communication, or English.
- Equivalency experience recognized as equivalent.
- Commitment to culturally affirming DEIA and anti‑racist principles in all teaching activities.
Preferred
- Prior teaching experience in the field.
- Current technology skills related to instructional delivery and openness to further development.

Benefits
