Description of Job Duties and Responsibilities

Position Summary

The Marketing Content Strategist advances the university's brand and enrollment goals by creating clear, compelling, and audience-focused copy. This role develops materials for print, digital, and web platforms-such as brochures, flyers, print and digital advertisements, and website copy, ensuring a consistent brand voice and messaging that resonates with prospective students, families, and the broader community. Reports to Editor-in-Chief, Communications, Marketing, & Creative Services (CMCS).

Responsibilities and duties may include, but not be limited to, the following:
  • Research, write and edit engaging brand and recruitment marketing copy for communications channels, including but not limited to, web, social media, print, and video.
  • Work closely with key stakeholders within the university's colleges, divisions and departments to develop academic marketing collateral (web, digital, print, video) that strategically target students and parents with specific interests.
  • Work closely with the Editor-in-Chief to develop a robust editorial calendar for cross-platform content and share important stories and information that promotes brand affinity.

  • Work closely with Design team to develop copy for marketing collateral.
  • Edit and proofread brand and recruitment marketing communications as requested.
  • Interview and/or engage with students, alumni and parents to write related content for use across multiple platforms.
  • Develop SEO-optimized website copy that uses keywords and clear structure to improve search visibility and reach prospective audiences.
  • Create and refine zero-click SEO content such as FAQs, summaries, alt text, and highlights that improve visibility in search results and voice assistants.
  • Develop content briefs and style references to keep messaging, tone, and branding consistent across university materials.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to review and update content for accuracy, clarity, and alignment with university standards.
  • Create copy for the Office of the President as required
  • Assists CMCS in their efforts as needed
  • May serve on university-wide committees
  • Perform related duties as assigned
Professional Growth & Development:
  • Stay current on design trends, software updates, and industry best practices.
  • Take advantage of training opportunities and feedback to strengthen writing and marketing skills. Support is available for travel to relevant regional/national conferences.
Candidate must provide samples of marketing or narrative writing with their application submission (PDF, doc, or docx format is fine). We are humans who engage other humans via the creation of useful, usable, and desirable content. We tell stories that evoke emotional responses and encourage brand affinity. We don't use AI to generate our copy, and no AI-generated writing samples will be considered.

Minimum Required Education

Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, journalism, public relations, English or a related field, or a bachelor's degree in any field with appropriate marketing copy writing experience.

Minimum Required Qualifications
  • At least two years full-time professional work experience in marketing, communications, admissions/enrollment management or writing.
  • Excellent project management and time-management skills; ability to coordinate multiple priorities.
  • Excellent grammar skills; strong proofreader and editor
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in writing for the web and understanding of search engine optimization
  • Experience developing persuasive marketing collateral that strengthens brand
  • Experience within a higher education environment
