About the Role Stonefield Engineering and Design is currently recruiting a Traffic Analyst/Team Lead to join the Transportation/Traffic Engineering Team. This dynamic position offers diverse interaction and rapid growth, working statewide in New Jersey and coordinating with transportation staff across the state.
Responsibilities
Assist with field inventory for traffic analysis and design, traffic data collection programs, traffic analysis and studies, technical reports, traffic modeling and simulation, traffic demand forecast models, and transportation management plans.
Develop traffic signal layout and timing, intersection design, pavement markings and striping, signing and traffic control plans, and preparation of quantity calculations and construction cost estimates.
Work closely with senior traffic engineers and project managers to complete design and analysis of roadways, bicycle, pedestrian facilities, and other transportation infrastructure.
Mentor junior engineers in engineering design, reports, and analyses.
Prepare design plans, traffic analysis, design calculations, and technical reports for projects for local, regional, state, and national clients.
Provide expert testimony when licensed and trained under senior leadership.
Communicate effectively with coworkers, clients at various levels, and deliver high‑quality documentation.
Work independently within a multidisciplinary team and prioritize assignments to meet deadlines.
Coordinate statewide projects and support proposals for regional and local clients, ensuring QA/QC practices for traffic work.
Prepare plans and studies required to obtain NJDOT access permits for private development projects.
Review and verify accuracy of traffic reports and data, ensuring high‑quality deliverables that meet firm standards and client expectations.
Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and 4+ years of traffic analysis and/or design experience.
3–10 years of experience, depending on aptitude.
Strong communication, organizational, and self‑motivation skills.
Experience with Synchro/SimTraffic, Highway Capacity Manual/Software, AutoCAD or MicroStation, zoning and site‑plan permitting processes preferred.
Professional Engineer (PE) license in New Jersey and/or New York preferred; a timeline to obtaining a PE license required if not currently licensed.
Preference for PE of Transportation (PTOE).
Strong understanding of traffic engineering principles, transportation planning, and relevant regulations and standards.
Experience with NJDOT Access Management Code and preparing access permit applications preferred.
Knowledge of NJDOT traffic signal design standards and traffic signal system design experience preferred.
High accuracy and attention to detail in all aspects of report preparation and data analysis.
Compensation based on experience, qualifications, and education, with eligibility for annual bonus opportunities.
