Job Description
As a Project Designer, you are an integral part of the project design team. You must understand a project’s complex parameters and, in collaboration with the Senior Designer and other team members, help transform them into clear and comprehensive design solutions. You are expected to apply a combination of strong communication skills (both graphic and verbal), creativity, and problem-solving abilities to meet the project’s design goals and objectives. A foundational understanding of design-related codes and safety requirements, building systems, materials, and construction techniques is essential for both roles.
Project Designers work closely with design principals, directors, senior designers, clients, and other project team members. They bring collaboration and initiative and are able to operate more independently, leading design efforts with less oversight.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT/ MARKETING
Support Business Development and Marketing with specific components of RFQ/RFP as required
In collaboration with Marketing, prepare presentations for project pursuits as required
Participate in project interviews as required
Develop site capacity studies and/or design documents as required
Attendance at industry events (i.e., conferences, workshops, seminars)
PROJECT SET-UP Support Senior Designer and Project Architect as necessary to:
Set up project directory within F Drive
Establish Revit model based on templates and project specific requirements
In collaboration with the Senior Designer and Project Manager, file all critical project correspondence within project filing system
PROGRAMMING/ENTITLEMENT THROUGH JURISDICTIONAL APPROVALS
Support the development of one or more project designs (contingent on size and complexity of project) from commencement through jurisdictional approval
Support with design-related tasks such as:
Programming or site studies, as required
Space Planning
Architectural Development (Interior & Exterior)
Prepare design documents such as 3D renderings, animations and flythroughs, as well as various Schematic exhibits (i.e., Site Plans, Floor Plans, Sections, and Elevations) by utilizing 3D modeling and presentation design software, including:
SketchUp
Revit
Rendering software (Lumion or Twin Motion, or Enscape)
AutoCAD
Adobe Suite
AI Engines
Energy Modeling Software & Plugins
Prepare and as required, deliver design presentations
Coordinate building design with consultants and in-house technical team
Collaborate with Interior designers
Meet project deadlines and schedules
Design to the project budget requirements, and propose alternatives as required
BIDDING/CONSTRUCTION ADMINISTRATION/CLOSE-OUT
Support Construction Administrator as required
ADMINISTRATIVE
Provide guidance and mentorship to junior team members
Continued development of presentation and public speaking skills
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Establishing and articulating design concepts and vision
Good verbal communication and presentation skills; confident in client-facing settings
Interior space planning
Architectural development (elevations and design details)
Preparation of compelling client presentations
Coordination with in-house team members and external consultants
REQUIREMENTS
5-10 years in an architectural firm
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture from an accredited program
DSA experience a plus
California Architect license preferred but not required
PHYSICAL STANDARDS
Near and visual acuity to interpret written documentation, reading very small print, maintains accurate records, recognize people and provide direction.
Use of hands for simple and firm grasping, as well as, fine manipulating ability to reach and handle equipment, records, and reports.
Higher-level cognitive skills to move quickly from one task to another and to attend to detail. Able to concentrate and set priorities despite distractions.
Speaking and hearing skills to converse verbally by telephone, in writing, and in person in an appropriate fashion, to ensure customers and employees are properly addressed in a precise manner.
Ability to travel as needed for client presentations, conferences, or business development meetings.
This hybrid role is available in either our Newport Beach or San Diego office.
