FWS Student Assistant - Library Archives Cartersville

Job ID: 283163. Location: GHC - Cartersville Instr. Site. Position: Temporary, Part-Time. Must be a current GHC Student.

About Us: Georgia Highlands College is a multi‑campus, state college member of the University System of Georgia. Founded in 1970 as Floyd Junior College, it serves more than 6,000 students across its five locations in Rome, Cartersville, Marietta, and Dallas. GHC offers over 30 areas of study with associate and bachelor’s degree options in‑person and online. Job Summary: This position provides support for various functions within the library and archives at the Cartersville Campus. The assistant will support the library’s mission, vision, and values.

Responsibilities

  • Provide customer service to library and archives users in person and by phone.
  • Utilize the library management system (LMS) to process borrowing and returning of library materials.
  • Offer basic reference duties, answering questions on searching, technology, college information, and directions.
  • Maintain the professional appearance of the library.
  • Maintain physical library and archival materials (shelving, shifting books, shelf reading, inventory).
  • Maintain confidentiality of all patron records for the library and archives.
  • Perform general administrative and clerical tasks, including scanning and computer equipment operations.
  • Maintain and collect data on library and archives use as directed.
  • Assist with archival processing, including accessing and describing materials, preserving and conserving materials, scanning and digitizing materials.
  • Create and maintain marketing displays and post them.
  • Assist with reference requests, create displays, and staff the circulation desk as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current GHC undergraduate student; satisfactory academic progress (SAP) currently being met.
  • Current‑year FAFSA on file with all verifications completed.
  • Enrollment for at least six (6) credit hours.
  • Some prior experience preferred but not required.
  • Job‑specific training will be provided.

Proposed Salary: $12/hour

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Willingness to learn new technology, policy, and procedures.
