We are seeking a highly skilled Technical Writer Contractor to join our client’s team on a contract basis. The Technical Scribe will be responsible for reviewing, performing, and capturing comments related to drafted Operator, Maintenance, and Troubleshooting procedures to ensure technical accuracy, adequacy, logic, functionality, and MIL-STD compliance. Skills Required
Technical
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Knowledge of military vehicles and/or military publications Basic understanding of MIL-STD-40051
Analytical and Problem-Solving
Ability to simplify complex technical information for various audiences Strong problem-solving and organizational skills Ability to maintain accurate documentation and records
Skills Preferred
Experience creating complex technical documentation for military applications Strong editing and proofreading skills
Technical Expertise
In-depth knowledge of military vehicles and systems such as aircraft, ground vehicles, and naval vessels Familiarity with military publications and standards including MIL-STD-40051 and MIL-HDBK-1222
Military Documentation Experience
Experience preparing and revising technical manuals, repair manuals, and training materials Familiarity with DoD and NATO terminology and documentation processes
Experience Required
2–3 years of experience in technical writing, preferably within military or defense environments 1–2 years working with military documentation and standards such as MIL-STD-40051 1–2 years of experience analyzing and simplifying complex technical data 4–6 years of overall related professional experience Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
Experience Preferred
Active or previous security clearance (Secret level preferred, not required) 3+ years of experience with military documentation and technical manuals 5+ years of experience in technical writing for defense programs
Education and Certifications
Required
Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, Communications, Engineering, or a related field Technical writing certifications such as CPTC or CWNP highly preferred Equivalent experience and education may be considered
Preferred
Coursework in technical writing, editing, communication, or military studies MOS 91P, 91H, 91M, or 91A background highly desirable Ongoing professional development in technical communication and military documentation standards
