The Impact You’ll Make in this Role
Develop capabilities in a variety of film technologies and apply them to new products and processes
Perform material characterization and analysis of physical and optical properties of polymers and films
Develop new test methodologies for unique film applications in challenging environments
Ensure successful technology scale‑up from laboratory to manufacturing
Develop correlations from materials properties to process parameters to product measurements, thereby creating a clear cause and effect understanding
Present results in a clear and concise manner to a multidisciplinary team and make recommendations with respect to material formulation and/or process modifications
Your Skills and Expertise
Bachelor’s degree or higher in science or engineering (completed and verified prior to start)
Two (2) years of experience in film processing, development, and/or characterization in a private, public, government or military environment
Experience with cast and oriented films, barrier coatings, and optical coatings
Experience with developing novel test methodologies, especially for harsh environments
Previous or current 3M experience (Internship, Contract Worker or Tech Aide)
Understanding of materials properties, rheology, metrology, and process equipment
Hands‑on, self‑starter orientation to the work
Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential
Must be able to work well both in multidisciplinary teams and independently
Methodical, problem‑solving attitude
Location St. Paul, MN
Travel Up to 10%
