Summary: Join our inpatient team in Wilmington, NC to care for newborns and pediatric patients. This job will require covering both the inpatient pediatric floor and our well newborn nursery. The ideal applicant would have an interest in newborn nursery to provide continuity of care to this population while also providing cross-coverage to our acute inpatient pediatric population. We manage a high-volume well newborn nursery with care to a more acute newborn population including hyperbilirubinemia, phototherapy, antibiotics, hypoglycemia, and neonatal withdrawal. Our pediatric inpatient floor admits a wide range of diagnoses and involves many co-management relationships with pediatric subspecialties. A Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant functions as part of the interdisciplinary healthcare team in accordance with privileges approved by the credentialing committee to provide high-quality, cost-effective care within the APP scope of practice in collaboration with a supervising physician. The APP reflects the mission, vision, and values of the organization and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and regulatory and accreditation standards. Responsibilities
Clinical – Obtain relevant health and medical history, perform physical assessments, review and interpret diagnostic tests/results. Develop differential diagnoses, treatment plans, prescribe/order evidence-based pharmacological agents within privileging and departmental guidelines, and schedule follow-ups. Maintain comprehensive, clear records and stay informed on disease processes and specialty literature. Prioritize work, support staff to ensure prompt and efficient patient flow, and participate in productivity-improvement projects. Perform medical procedures in line with guidelines (including circumcisions). Education – Educate clients and/or families regarding medical conditions, treatment, and follow-up. Collaborate with clinicians, staff, and students to promote continuity of patient/family centered care. Develop educational materials and provide education to physicians, housestaff, nursing, ancillaries, and students. Pursue self-learning opportunities and participate in identified education programs. Leadership – Provide instruction to physicians, housestaff, nursing, ancillaries, and students (precepting, shadowing, lectures, training, CE, rounds, and staff meetings). Participate in community/network outreach programs and lead or contribute to systems improvements. Professional – Interact with patients and families respectfully and timely; collaborate with coworkers to meet patient care needs. Accept responsibility for outcomes and share workload with the team. Quality/Research – Engage in daily continuous quality improvement, work with management on problem-solving and decision-making, lead interdisciplinary teams, and contribute to protocol development and evidence-based care. Education Requirements: Completion of an accredited graduate-level Advanced Practice Provider (APRN or PA) program. Licensure/Certification Requirements: Licensed as an Advanced Practice Provider (e.g., Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, Clinical Pharmacist Practitioner, Certified Nurse Midwife, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist) in the state of North Carolina. Board certification if required by the Department. DEA. PALS certificate. Professional Experience Requirements: No prior experience required. Experience with pediatric patients preferred Experience with inpatient care preferred Excellent communication skills with children, families, and interdisciplinary teams Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Demonstrated clinical competency. Effective leadership and strong interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively. Strong written and verbal communication and analytical skills.
