Summary: Join our inpatient team in Wilmington, NC to care for newborns and pediatric patients. This job will require covering both the inpatient pediatric floor and our well newborn nursery during. Our ideal applicant would have an interest in newborn nursery to provide needed continuity of care to this population while also providing cross-coverage to our acute inpatient pediatric population. We have a high volume well newborn nursery that also provides care to a more acute newborn population managing hyperbilirubinemia, phototherapy, antibiotics, hypoglycemia, and neonatal withdrawal. Our pediatric inpatient floor admits a vast array of diagnoses including patients co-managed with many other pediatric subspecialties.
Responsibilities
Clinical - Obtains relevant health and medical history, performs thorough physical assessment, reviews and interprets pertinent diagnostic tests/results. Develops differential diagnoses, treatment plans including prescribing/ordering evidence-based pharmacological agents consistent with departmental guidelines and privileging, and schedules follow-up management. Conducts preventive health screening based on age, history and patient needs. Maintains clear comprehensive records of patient care. Maintains knowledge of general disease processes and specialty literature. Develops comprehensive differential diagnoses and revises the plan of care to meet changing needs. Prioritizes work and assists staff to provide prompt and efficient client flow. Maintains high productivity according to standards. Performs medical procedures consistent with guidelines and roles (including but not limited to circumcisions).
Education - Educates clients and/or families regarding medical condition, treatment, and follow-up. Collaborates with clinicians, staff, and students to promote continuity of care. Develops educational materials and provides education to physicians, housestaff, nursing, ancillaries and/or students. Participates in identifying and addressing learning needs. Attends education programs.
Leadership - Provides instruction to physicians, housestaff, nursing, ancillaries and/or students (precepting, shadowing, lectures, training, rounds, etc.). Participates in community/network outreach programs. Leads or participates in systems improvements to optimize health care delivery.
Professional - Interacts with patients and families respectfully and timely. Communicates effectively with the interprofessional team. Responds to needs, accepts responsibility for outcomes, and shares workload with the team.
Quality/Research - Engages in daily continuous quality improvement, collaborates with management to assess and solve problems, leads interdisciplinary teams, and develops or revises protocols to reflect evidence-based care. Seeks to influence policy and develops new clinical programs or services as appropriate.
Qualifications
Education: Completion of an accredited graduate-level Advanced Practice Provider (APRN or PA) program.
Licensure/Certification: Licensed as an Advanced Practice Provider (e.g., Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, Clinical Pharmacist Practitioner, CNM, CRNA) in North Carolina. Board certification if required by the department. DEA registration. PALS certificate.
Professional Experience: No prior experience required; experience with pediatric patients and inpatient care preferred. Excellent communication skills with children, families and interdisciplinary teams.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Demonstrated clinical competency, effective leadership and interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and collaboratively, strong written and verbal communication and analytical skills, ability to document accurately for billing.
