Postdoctoral Appointee – X-ray Surface Scattering & Holographic Imaging
Argonne National Laboratory – Advanced Photon Source Location: Lemont, IL, USA Job Number: 7314163 (Ref #: 420840) Posting Date: Newly posted Salary Range: $70,758 – $117,925 + benefits Position Overview
The Advanced Photon Source (APS) at Argonne National Laboratory seeks a Postdoctoral Appointee to develop X-ray coherent scattering imaging techniques, with a focus on surface holography, for studying nanostructures at surfaces and interfaces. The role involves advancing reconstruction algorithms and applying these methods to materials including microelectronics and nanocomposites, leveraging the upgraded APS and CSSI beamline. Responsibilities
Develop and apply coherent X-ray scattering and holographic imaging methods. Work on algorithm development for multibeam coherent scattering in grazing incidence. Conduct experiments at synchrotron beamlines and analyze large datasets. Collaborate with APS scientists and publish results in top journals. Qualifications
PhD in Physics or related field (0–5 years post-PhD). Expertise in surface X-ray scattering required. Experience with coherent diffractive imaging, ptychography, or phase retrieval preferred. Strong programming/data analysis skills (Python). Hands-on synchrotron beamline experience. Excellent communication skills and ability to work in multidisciplinary teams. Term: 2 years, renewable for a 3rd year (subject to performance/funding). Compensation: $70,758 – $117,925, with full benefits package.
