Job Summary

The Show Set Designer is responsible for the design, development, and documentation of the overall attraction, scenic and show elements primarily utilizing architectural and CAD software as a design and coordination tool. Responsible for the development of virtual and physical models, scene studies, renders, plans, sections, drawings and drawing packages depicting design and art direction. As part of the Creative Design team, will assist the Senior Show Set Designer, Production Designer, Art Director, and Creative Director in the development of details creatively integrating the myriad show, facility, equipment, and elements into the overall creative environment. Responsible for integration and coordination of show and facility elements in the drawing package. Utilizes various drafting techniques, 3D modeling & drawing techniques and tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, 3ds Max, Maya, Adobe Graphics software, 3D software, etc.) to model, draw, draft and create dimensional, scale drawings and models detailing the design intent and the integration of various show elements with each other and the facility. Responsible for designing to project program and budget, and for coordinating and integrating with other disciplines including but not limited to engineering, operations, and architect/engineer of record.

Major Responsibilities

Conceives, develops, and iterates ride and show design elements that are assembled into a high-quality show set design package. The package articulates the creative design intent and details the various show elements (scenery, special effects, show action equipment, animated figures, props, audio, lighting, and more) as directed by the Show Producer, Art Director, Creative Director, Production Designer or Senior Show Set Designer.

Designs the creative development and iteration of ride and show design elements with a focus on scenic, props, environment, architecture, facility, sightlines, and scale through various phases of development.

Develops and manages the show set design package, including presentation materials such as sketches, storyboards, layouts, illustrations, plans, sections, and elevations.

Participates in design, cost, schedule, and technical reviews; develops creative and feasible solutions to integrate elements into a themed environment.

Mentors and provides guidance and training to staff related to career goals and technical skills; motivates staff to accomplish assignment goals; builds bench strength; leads staff; communicates expectations; develops policies and show set design standards.

Establishes and maintains positive team relationships with project partners, departments, disciplines, and personnel; communicates project intent and inspires team members.

Understands and participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following policy and training.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Additional Information

Must be creative, organized thinker with strong technical and artistic ability in show set/scenic design, drafting, 3D modeling, architectural design, and related tools.

Proficient in AutoCAD and Revit; 3D modeling and rendering skills preferred.

Strong communication and collaboration skills; able to work effectively in a team.

Ability to work in a collaborative team environment across a range of disciplines.

Performs supervisory responsibilities in accordance with policies and applicable laws.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred (Architecture, Fine Arts, Design, Theater, Graphics, Computer Animation, etc.).

Experience

4+ years within an attraction development environment required, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have designed, developed and assembled several project show set design packages.
