Position Summary
Registered polysomnographic technologist works under the general supervision of the medical director to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders including in‑center and out‑of‑center sleep testing, diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, scoring of records, patient care and patient education.
Responsibilities
Gather, analyze and score patient information and data acquisition. Prepare and calibrate equipment required for testing to determine proper functioning and make adjustments as necessary. Perform routine positive airway pressure (PAP) mask fitting at advanced skill level, with a thorough working knowledge of current mask designs. Follow procedural protocols such as Multiple Sleep Latency Test, Maintenance of Wakefulness Test, parasomnia studies, PAP and oxygen titration to ensure collection of appropriate data. Follow "lights out" procedures to establish and document baseline values such as body position, oxyhemoglobin saturation, respiratory heart rates, etc. Insure signals during testing are artifact free and make adjustments as necessary. Follow appropriate workflows for scoring and data retrieval.
Qualifications
High School completion or GED. Registered Polysomnographic Technologist credential issued by the Board of Registered Polysomnography Technologists or Registered Sleep Technologist credential issued by the American Board of Sleep Medicine. BLS certification upon hire. Preferred experience: 1‑3 years of sleep experience. Demonstrated ability to educate patients. Basic computer skills and ability to use Microsoft Office.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to work variable shifts based on patient care needs. Must be able to work extended hours at a computer station. May be required to work as a solitary poly tech during the shift. May be exposed to aggressive, violent behaviors from patients, family members and/or visitors. May be exposed to blood and body fluids, including those with tuberculosis, HIV positive, hepatitis or body infestations.
