As a Sr. Technical Writer, you will develop written, submission and presentation-ready communications for the program as required. In addition, as the Sr. Technical Writer; you will assume the lead role on any matrixed initiative that involves review and/or generation of technical materials for the Program Management Office on several DoD contracts. The focus of this position is the efficient and effective transference of technical knowledge using various methods including white papers, documentation, request for information responses, training manuals, and presentations including the use of tools and repositories such as Microsoft 365 (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams), MS SharePoint and Adobe Acrobat.
Essential Responsibilities
Interview subject matter experts (SME) to gain an understanding of their domain' processes, technologies, operations and business needs and transform that knowledge into compelling, technically compliant instruction, storylines and proposal inputs
Format, edit, wordsmith, proof and finalize all Program documentation products.
Maximize form and function of all Training documentation to include format, layout, text flow, figure and table assignments, and final proofing
Standardize, edit and publish technical artifacts such as Engineering Change Proposals (ECP), Contract Data Requirements List (CDRL), etc.
Assist in creating or editing and finalizing PowerPoint® slide decks as required
Participate in designated peer review and lessons learned groups
Perform dictation as required, producing and delivering formalized meeting minutes
Develop and maintain documentation templates as required
Review and update Technical Writing processes and related documentation as required
Support the development and maintenance of the Program style guide
Perform other editing and writing duties as assigned
Required Experience & Skills
Five (5) to Seven (7) years of experience editing and writing technical documentation within the information technology field to include interpreting engineering and maintenance specifications, drawings procedures
Excellent technical writing skills and proven ability to peer review technical documents for grammar, content and style
Demonstrated ability to document business processes and write detailed functional requirements
Capable of understanding complex, technical topics and related jargon and translating it for colleagues and consumers who have nontechnical backgrounds
Must be able to work well with others, such as other writers, designers, editors, and illustrators; as well as the technical people whose information being explained
Good organizational skills and the ability to work under tight timeframes
Exceptional communication skills – both written and verbal
Excellent active listening skills
Ability to clearly articulate messages to a variety of audiences
Flexible and adaptable; able to work in ambiguous situations
Team player able to work collaboratively with and through others
Educational Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Journalism, English, Communications or a related discipline
Microsoft 365 (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams), MS SharePoint, Adobe Acrobat
Certification in Technical Writing (preferred)
ITILv3 Foundation (preferred)
MS Visio, MS Publisher (preferred)
Markup and Style Languages (HTML, XML, and CSS); preferred
