Purpose Integrated within Extended Education Ventures (EEV), the Director of Marketing and Learner Recruitment works closely with teams devoted to student support, course and program development, technology services, custom training, and conference facilities support to develop and oversee the implementation of strategies and tactics that promote continuing and professional education programs at UT Austin. This includes recruiting learners for these programs and building the Extended Campus reputation locally, regionally, and nationally.
Responsibilities
Marketing Leadership – Provide strategic oversight for the development and execution of marketing, digital marketing, and communications strategies for EEV. Lead initiatives for lead and prospect generation to achieve enrollment targets. Shape and manage the EEV brand, develop comprehensive marketing plans, and contribute to organizational strategy as a member of the EEV Leadership Team. Advise senior leadership on marketing-related matters and perform other duties as assigned.
Learner Recruitment Leadership – Lead the Enrollment and Success team in guiding prospective students through the recruitment funnel to enrollment. Ensure alignment between student goals and program offerings to support successful outcomes. Provide strategic direction to optimize recruitment effectiveness.
Communications – Design and implement communication strategies for EEV. Oversee public relations efforts, including press releases and media outreach. Direct the creation of content for websites, social media, and external communications to ensure consistent and compelling messaging.
Promotions and Recruitment – Collaborate with marketing and recruitment teams to develop and execute integrated campaigns focused on lead generation, capture, and nurturing. Identify optimal distribution channels and oversee messaging and content development. Manage the planning and execution of annual marketing campaigns to drive enrollment.
People and Financial Management – Oversee a $1M+ budget and manage a team of 6–10 staff members, along with temporary personnel and external vendors. Coordinate with EEV Central Business Services for procurement. Lead daily operations, set performance goals, evaluate outcomes, and support staff development. Continuously assess and refine unit operations for efficiency and impact.
Research and Measurement – Establish and monitor KPIs to evaluate marketing effectiveness. Deliver regular reports on funnel performance, campaign ROI, and optimization strategies. Integrate market research into planning and stay informed on emerging trends and best practices.
University-wide Leadership and Services – Advance EEV’s mission by offering marketing and communications expertise to university partners. Facilitate collaboration among campus marketing professionals, foster external partnerships, and lead initiatives to elevate the Extended Campus brand and learner recruitment efforts across UT Austin.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in marketing or a closely related field.
At least seven to ten years of experience in strategic communications, marketing, or brand management.
Understanding of principles of effective learner recruitment in a higher education setting.
Demonstrated success in national audience identification and growth, including multichannel campaigns (social, traditional, and digital media).
Familiarity with marketing automation and customer resource management systems.
Experience with preparing and presenting marketing and enrollment KPI reports.
Success in managing complex projects on deadlines.
Significant history of writing and preparing promotional and marketing materials.
At least two years of experience in budget and personnel management.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience leveraging consumer preference, public opinion, and market research tools to inform strategy and content.
Direct experience in learner recruitment in a higher education setting.
Prior experience in higher education or government is a plus.
Salary Range $105,000+ depending on qualifications.
Working Conditions
Work to be conducted in typical office environment.
