Senior Substation Designer - Inventor

This role is a senior lead engineering technician in our Virtual Design & Data Solutions (VDDS) team, focusing on complex physical substation design (AIS/GIS) and AutoDesk Inventor (SDS) application.

Key Responsibilities
Provide technical guidance, review design inputs and ensure deliverables comply with Black & Veatch policies, codes and standards.
Apply basic engineering principles to develop moderately complex design concepts and deliverables.
Perform design calculations, detailed material quantities, estimates and records.
Program control systems, participate in plant start‑up activities and maintain schedules.
Coordinate with design group personnel, field activities, and communicate project design requirements, progress and schedules.
Assist clients with key interests, communicate driver concerns and develop approaches to accommodate them.
Assist discipline or department management in developing and communicating design standards and process improvement activities.
Mentor, instruct, delegate work and provide feedback to other engineering professionals.
Monitor staffing levels, identify resource application needs and process requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced experience with AutoDesk Inventor (SDS) and physical substation design (AIS and/or GIS).
Intermediate knowledge of schematics, wiring and panel fronts.
Advanced knowledge of engineering standards, systems, document control and Black & Veatch policies.
Intermediate industry knowledge and technology trends.
Advanced knowledge of other disciplines.
Basic knowledge of construction & constructability practices & principles.
Intermediate knowledge of engineering design principles and applicable design guides related to assigned engineering discipline.
Basic knowledge of procurement & contract administration.
Associate or Bachelor Degree in Drafting, Engineering Design or related technology preferred.
Typically a minimum of 8‑11 years related work experience.
Preferred non‑technical skills: Learning on the Fly, Problem Solving, Perseverance, Patience, Time Management, Drive for Results, Self‑Development, Listening, Informing.
Minimum Qualifications
Typically a minimum of 11 years related work experience.
