As the communications leader for the Urology & Critical Care (UCC) business unit of BD, the Associate Director, UCC Communications is responsible for developing and implementing internal and external communication strategies that drive business growth and protect the company’s reputation. This is a critical role that is responsible for increasing employee engagement, driving communication for key change initiatives, aligning BD UCC employees with BD’s overall purpose, strategy and culture, as well as supporting external public relations efforts and social media strategy.
Primary Responsibilities
Lead community relations and engagement activities in partnership with local leadership and community investment partners and amplify storytelling around our BD Hometowns initiatives.
Align efforts with UCC Marketing teams and Corporate Communications on customer-focused PR opportunities in both trade and consumer media that support product sales and marketing strategies.
Act as UCC lead for issues management and crisis communication, working closely with the BD Corporate Communications team.
Develop, manage and implement UCC organic social media in support of BD and UCC strategy and in line with the overarching BD Social Media approach to champion brand awareness, associate and customer engagement and advocacy.
Act as a consultant and strategic thought partner to the business president and leadership team to develop, manage, execute and champion business-wide internal communication and change management strategies that drive associate engagement through improved awareness and understanding of business priorities and key initiatives.
Enable and coach UCC President and the UCC Management Board as needed to ensure content aligns to high standards of excellence and effectiveness of delivery, including speaking engagements, external and internal presentations, etc.
Research, write, edit and publish content for communication vehicles including intranet, town halls, video scripts, emails, presentations and others.
Support business and cultural integration efforts for mergers, acquisitions and divestitures, with Corporate Communication team.
Support communication and engagement in Inclusion & Diversity initiatives and events in alignment and partnership with UCC HR.
Analyze and report on the effectiveness of communication efforts, using data and metrics to drive continuous improvement.
About You
Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Communication, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, Business or related field.
Minimum 10 years professional internal and external communications experience required including experience working on transformation initiatives – communicating change and bringing people along a change journey.
Experience in external communications/public relations, and social media, web and other digital communication technologies and tools is required.
Experience in health care industry is highly preferred.
Strategic and proactive problem solver with ability to “see the big picture” and connect the dots across a matrixed organization required.
Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills with strong editing capabilities required; expertise in AP Style writing highly preferred.
Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher), Adobe, PR Newswire, Media Monitoring Services, LinkedIn experience required.
Willing to travel up to 30%.
