Botetourt County Sheriff's Office is currently accepting applications to fill a Digital Communications Coordinator. The Digital Communications Coordinator is responsible for creating, coordinating, and delivering clear, consistent, and engaging communications that enhance transparency, public trust, and community engagement for the Sheriff’s Office. This position develops and manages digital content across multiple platforms, including social media, website updates, press releases, and multimedia productions. The role requires creativity and technical proficiency in videography, photography, photo and video editing, and digital publishing, with a focus on producing dynamic content such as reels, graphics, and storytelling campaigns. The Digital Communications Coordinator also maintains strong relationships with media outlets, drafts timely news releases, and monitors public engagement to ensure communications efforts are effective, innovative, and aligned with the agency’s mission. In addition, this position plays a vital role in supporting recruitment and retention by developing campaigns that highlight the agency’s culture, career opportunities, and the dedication of its personnel.

Minimum Qualifications

Must be 18 years of age or older.

No criminal record.

Valid Virginia driver’s license with good driving record.

Good credit history.

Citizen of the United States or have valid proof that citizenship is being sought.

Bachelor's Degree in communications, marketing, public relations, advertising, journalism, or other related fields. Three or more years of experience in communications related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience

Digital Communications Coordinator Primary Duties

Promote the vision, mission and core values of the Botetourt County Sheriff’s Office.

Develops digital presence strategy and plan including implementation.

In coordination with the Sheriff and the Department’s Public Information Officer, manages the social media content of the Office, including brand management.

Provides guidance on communications and public relation strategies.

Responsible for cataloging and assisting in production and publication of photography and videography.

Assists creating designs for social media posts, new releases, public service announcements, notification, advertisements, and other promotional materials.

Performs general office work as needed, including accurate record keeping and document distribution.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge of marketing and public relations practices and principles

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Must have demonstrated and current knowledge of and experience working with:

Social media and other web-based media platforms such as YouTube, Microsoft Streams, Instagram, and Twitter including central content management platforms

Website content management systems, such as WordPress, Wix, Drupal, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Marketing including form and survey management products

Photo and video editing programs such as Canva, Adobe Photoshop, Kaltura, Vevo, YouTube

Must have knowledge of marketing and public relations practices and principles

Must have excellent oral and written communication skills

Must have proficiency in Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office 365 Suite, including Microsoft Teams, Publisher, and file management

Must be comfortable with cloud platforms for delivering digital content

Must have excellent attention to detail

Graphic design experience

Must be a self-starter and be able to work well both individually and in teams to meet deadlines with minimal supervision

Must be able to multi-task

Must stay abreast of current and emerging communications and digital marketing trends

Ability to manage time, records, and resources wisely

Experience in crisis communications is desired

Shifts will occur mainly Monday through Friday

Weekend Availability for special events or unplanned occurrences may be required
