Orbital Engineering is seeking a Distribution Designer to support our Utility Services Department, focusing on pole attachment programs, distribution design projects, and DSIC-related work. The position will accommodate remote work, with the candidate residing in New Jersey to perform field data collection and design duties in the client’s service area. Responsibilities

Visually identify, inspect, and record equipment and different construction situations in the field, including rights-of-way. Apply National Electric Safety Code (NESC) Standards, Client Standards, Federal, State or Local guidelines to complete engineering designs (Pole Replacements, Communication Space Rearrangements, Joint-Use Design) for possible joint-use or make-ready construction. Analyze field-collected data (including imagery) and update applicable software for design implementation. Utilize Client proprietary software packages or equipment to complete daily design workflow and facilitate new attachment permitting processes as needed. Communicate with co-workers and clients to determine the best engineering design solutions. Maintain accountability for assigned work, ensuring it is completed on schedule and within budget, while regularly informing management of status. Engage with Clients to determine cost-effective solutions for projects. Provide timely documentation and support to Orbital accounting functions to ensure projects are on budget and properly tracked. Transcribe notes and use measuring devices to collect and organize data for design work. Capable of frequent driving, standing, walking, and lifting up to 20 pounds in various terrains; work in all weather conditions may be required. Work is primarily office-based with fieldwork as part of the design process; occasional travel or overnight stays may be needed. Attend meetings at clients’ sites and interact with the public, including landowners and operators. May enter energized substations up to 745kV in coordination with utility personnel during field activities. Minimum Requirements

High School Diploma or GED with 3+ years of fieldwork, construction, drafting, utility experience, or technical design. Associates Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related technical discipline with 0-2 years of experience, with interest in fieldwork or surveying. Strong data organization skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and communicate statuses effectively. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and design/business software; able to learn client-specific tools. Effective written and oral communication across organizational levels; strong problem-solving and reasoning abilities. dependable transportation and a valid driver’s license with insurance; fit-for-duty capable; able to pass post-offer drug and alcohol testing per Federal regulations (and random testing as applicable). Ability to work from home and in an office setting, as required. Must reside in New Jersey to conduct fieldwork in the client’s service area. Preferred Qualifications

Ability to read and understand engineering drawings/schematics. Working knowledge of electrical distribution assets and/or communication equipment construction. Experience with pole loading (e.g., Spida Calc, O-Calc, Pole Foreman, Katapult) or other modeling software (AutoCAD, DDS). Familiarity with design and checking practices for engineering drawings and deliverables. Familiarity with Safe Work Practices and PPE applications. About Orbital Engineering
