We are looking for an experienced and motivated Distribution Designer to independently develop construction-ready documents for overhead and underground electric distribution systems and telecommunications infrastructure. This position is ideal for a detail-oriented professional with 4–7 years of utility design experience who thrives in a collaborative, supportive, and flexible work environment.

Responsibilities

Independently design overhead and underground utility distribution systems, following client and industry standards

Prepare construction drawings, cost estimates, material lists (BOMs), and specifications

Conduct field visits to gather data, verify site conditions, and obtain landowner permissions as needed

Coordinate with clients, project engineers, and permitting authorities

Apply utility standards (e.g., NESC) to ensure code compliance

Track project progress using client and internal systems

Prepare required reports and maintain accurate project documentation

Required Skills & Experience

4–7 years of experience in utility distribution design (electric and/or gas)

Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.

Proficiency in design software such as MicroStation, AutoCAD, and GIS systems

Experience with Work Management Systems (Asset Suite 8, WMIS, Passport)

Familiarity with easement/permitting processes and right-of-way acquisition

Knowledge of pole loading and sag analysis tools (e.g., PoleForeman, O-Calc, SpidaCalc)

Strong communication skills, both written and verbal

Ability to work independently and coordinate with cross-functional teams

Valid driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle are required for field work

Mileage reimbursement is provided for all field-related travel

Preferred Qualifications

Engineering background in gas and electrical systems

Familiarity with NESC clearance and loading specs

Experience preparing plan & profile designs and cost evaluations
