Instructional Aide - High School Library

Position: Instructional Aide - High School Library at Rockdale ISD. Under direct supervision of a certified staff member, assist certified professional employees in the media center to enable students to effectively use instructional materials and resources.

Responsibilities

• Assist students in locating reference and instructional materials and develop independence in using library resources.
• Reinforce reading, language arts, mathematics, computer instruction, media and related skills.
• Maintain circulation desk operations and files.
• Work with students individually and in small groups to reinforce learning.
• Operate audio-visual equipment as needed.
• Assist in cataloging and filing learning materials.
• Prepare, copy, distribute and use educational materials.
• Serve as a reference guide for students.
• Arrange book displays, exhibits and other items to promote reading and learning.
• Assist with selection and weeding of library materials.
• Utilize and maintain instructional and non-instructional library equipment, including a personal computer if necessary.

Qualifications and Skills

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Prior experience working with children (preferred).
• Educational Aide Certificate (EA II or EA III) (if required).
• Ability to carry out instructions, use personal computers and teach students to use them.
• Strong arithmetic, writing and communication skills.
• Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals and maintain confidentiality.
• Ability to follow directives and assist students with instructional tasks.
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.

Work Environment and Other

Works in standard office and school building environments.
