Overview
The Department of Music at the University of Virginia seeks applications for a Lecturer in Music with a specialization in Horn. An initial three year appointment begins on August 10, 2026, with subsequent reviews on a three year cycle. This is a half-time, benefits-eligible, tenure-ineligible position.
Duties include: performing as Principal Horn in the Charlottesville Symphony at the University of Virginia; coaching orchestra horn sections; coaching a chamber music ensemble; and additional performance opportunities. The Instructor in Horn will also maintain a studio of primarily undergraduate students. Private lessons are compensated beyond the wages of the primary teaching duties.
Responsibilities

- Engage with department programs and activities as appropriate.
Qualifications
- Applicants must have a master\'s degree in music by the date of appointment.
- Successful teaching and recruiting experience at the university level and evidence of significant experience as a solo and ensemble performer is desired.
- Candidates should be comfortable teaching students of varying skill levels (music majors and non-majors) and teaching a range of techniques and repertoires.
