Overview

The Video Producer is an experienced visual storyteller who applies editorial expertise and a creative eye to production of video content that promotes Johns Hopkins University and its brand. This Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) role includes responsibilities related to project management, production, and video editing to capture audience engagement by telling nuanced stories about science, technology, and engineering in unique, quirky, and surprising ways. The Video Producer uses the Center’s production process to create video content as part of the video team, including transcription ordering, editing, coordinating with quality control staff, working with the production coordinator, instructional designers and other team members to produce academic content.

Responsibilities

  • Creates public health video content aimed at domestic and international learners, including short-form, documentary-style videos produced for and regularly published online in Course Plus, Courseara or other CMS/LMS platforms.
  • Manages budget and deliverable deadlines associated with individual projects.
  • Collaborates with the broader production team to manage multiple video production projects from start to finish, often on tight deadlines.
  • Manages client consultation, needs assessment and metrics for success, development of concepts, treatments, storyboards, script writing, field producing, interviewing, and editing of the final product.
  • Performs other related duties as requested.

In Addition To The Duties Described Above

  • Collaborates with the broader production team to manage multiple video production projects from start to finish including filming and editing.
  • Occasional travel for location filming.
  • Provides client consultation, needs assessment and providing metrics for success, development of concepts, treatments, and storyboards, script writing, field and studio producing, interviewing, and editing of the final product.
  • Must be able to lift 40lbs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Five years’ experience creating editorial video content in television news, corporate branding, non-profit or similar fast-paced environment.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Reporting or segment production background.
  • Live event or production switching, especially the NewTek Tricaster.
  • Experience in either VR or XR media production.
  • Experience with the Sony FX9 production camera.
  • Experience with field lighting and lighting design, motion graphics, and animation creation.
  • Basic understanding of asset management and production workflows.
  • Experience with the Microsoft Office 365 suite.
  • Demo reel available.

Technical Qualifications & Specialized Certifications

  • Experience utilizing video production equipment (cameras, lights, audio equipment) and post-production software (e.g., Adobe Premiere, DaVinci Resolve, Tricaster, etc.).
  • Experience designing and developing AR/VR projects for clients.
  • Experience with common broadcast production equipment (e.g., network switchers) and protocols (e.g., AVOIP, Dante, Crestron, TCP/IP, NDI).

The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of Johns Hopkins University’s salary range for this position. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, market conditions, education/training and other qualifications.
