Job Summary The HV Designer – Level 2 will provide engineering support to the E&C team and is responsible for assisting in all stages of project substation or transmission design. This position reports to the Director of SME or other designated management personnel. It is located in the Teaneck, NJ office with working hours Monday through Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm (or 9:00 am – 6:00 pm local time). Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the United States; visa sponsorship is not available at this time. The role expects travel up to 30%.
Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities
Design and develop detailed HV substation or transmission drawings.
Create substation drawings such as equipment layouts, single‑line diagrams, three‑line diagrams, conduit and cable sizing/routing, grounding design, trench section drawings, general arrangement, and elevations.
Produce transmission line drawings including plan & profiles, structures, phasing, and KMZ routes.
Prepare initial and advanced design concepts during the proposal stage of projects with minimal information or guidance.
Prepare drawings for civil and structural elements of substation or transmission design as needed.
Prepare reports and documents such as bill of materials, basis of design, and studies.
Play a key role in developing CAD standards, considering the needs of both engineering and design departments.
Efficiently simplify project tasks within the discipline, enhancing productivity.
Support the Quality Assurance/Quality Control process, proactively taking ownership of project and task quality.
Sustain excellent relationships with clients on behalf of the company.
Uphold high standards of professionalism and ethics within the organization.
Commit to continuous learning to stay updated with current issues.
Participate in safety training sessions and adhere to safety rules and guidelines.
Work in a team to develop and improve system standards.
Assist with technical training for team members and new employees.
Build a quality culture of continuous improvement that enhances company efficiency and engineering quality.
Drive a safety culture that embraces a “Responsibility to act” and “Show by Example” approach.
Maintain regular attendance in accordance with company policy.
Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by management.
Required Qualifications
Associate or bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field.
Minimum of 2 to 4 years of engineering design experience in high voltage substation or transmission.
Relevant work experience in the electrical or physical design of substations or transmission lines.
Proficiency with AutoCAD.
Excellent technical communication abilities, including reading technical literature and engineering plans.
Strong skills in Microsoft Office Suite.
Knowledge of the National Electric Code.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong command of English language.
Assertive, able to cope with pressure, and a team player.
Physical Demands
Stationary position: frequently remains stationary up to 90% of the time and sits up to 8 hours a day.
Move/Traverse: infrequently bend, stand, stoop, and/or walk.
Carry weight: infrequently carry weight and/or lift objects up to 10 pounds.
Hearing and speech: frequently communicate with the ability to hear and talk regularly with employees, coworkers, and all personnel matters.
Sight: frequent use of sight to detect images on computer, office documents, and office objects near and far.
Climb: occasionally ascend/descend stairways to reach upper and lower floors.
Travel: up to 30% as needed.
Work Environment
Regular professional office business setting.
Noise level ranges from low to moderate in office setting.
Noise level ranges from moderate to high on construction worksites.
Under the Office Mobilization Plan (OMP) policy, the role may transition to an onsite or hybrid arrangement as determined by business needs and the Head of Department.
