Role Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Grant Writer (Volunteer) to support our fundraising and development initiatives. In this role, you will research funding opportunities, write compelling proposals, and contribute to projects that directly expand and sustain our programs. This is a collaborative and mission-driven position well suited to individuals with strong writing skills and an interest in nonprofit strategy.
Key Responsibilities
- Research and identify grants, foundations, corporate sponsors, and relevant funding opportunities
- Write, edit, and submit polished grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and required documentation
- Collaborate with program and leadership teams to gather metrics, impact stories, and reports
- Track grant deadlines, application status, and reporting obligations in an organized system
- Assist with donor communications, stewardship materials, and development-related writing as needed
- Monitor trends in nonprofit funding and contribute ideas for long-term development strategy
Qualifications
- 1–2+ years of experience in grant writing, fundraising, development, or nonprofit communications
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail
- Strong research skills and ability to synthesize information clearly
- Proficiency with Google Workspace and Microsoft Office
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote environment
- Passion for A Free Bird’s mission and commitment to supporting meaningful impact
