Job Summary
The Visual Inspector is responsible for performing detailed visual inspections of printed circuit board (PCB) assemblies and electronic components to ensure compliance with quality standards, customer requirements, and IPC workmanship criteria. This position plays a key role in ensuring only defect-free assemblies move forward in the production process.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform inspections of PCB assemblies, components, and solder joints using magnification tools or microscopes to verify compliance with IPC-A-610 and customer specifications.
- Identify and document defects, including solder bridges, misaligned components, insufficient solder, contamination, and missing parts.
- Inspect both surface mount (SMT) and through-hole (THT) assemblies during in-process and final stages.
- Review documentation such as assembly drawings, bill of materials (BOM), and work instructions (AWI) to verify proper configuration.
- Record inspection results in the ERP system or inspection logs, ensuring accurate traceability of findings.
- Communicate issues promptly to line leads, engineers, or supervisors to support corrective actions.
- Verify reworked or repaired assemblies meet acceptance standards before final approval.
- Maintain a clean, organized inspection station in compliance with ESD and 5S standards.
- Participate in continuous improvement efforts, offering suggestions to improve quality and efficiency.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- 1-2 years of experience in PCB assembly, inspection, or related electronics manufacturing environment preferred.
- Certification to IPC-A-610 (Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies) strongly desired.
- Strong attention to detail and visual acuity.
- Ability to interpret drawings, schematics, and quality documentation.
- Familiarity with magnification tools and microscopes.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of ESD and safety handling procedures.
- Basic computer literacy and familiarity with ERP systems.
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
- Use of microscopes, magnifiers, and small hand tools.
- Lift and move assemblies or trays up to 20 pounds occasionally.
Salary
$20 - $22 per hour
