Responsibilities Observe professionals in action and see how they utilize software and technology to deliver results.
Join meetings with teams and professionals to gain insight into collaborative decision-making processes.
Receive a guided tour of the office to understand operations.
Review relevant project materials and documentation to deepen understanding of our work.
Engage in conversations with team members and learn from their experiences and career paths.
Take notes and record questions or ideas for future reference.
Shadows should not perform tasks typically handled by paid staff, except for brief learning periods.
Participation and Requirements Minimum and maximum hours per semester: High School students: minimum 3 hours; maximum 25 hours per semester. Adults in programs: up to 40 hours per semester.
Minors under 18 must be enrolled in school; all participants must obtain a completed consent form from a parent or legal guardian and an emergency card form; a confidentiality agreement must be signed prior to participation.
Participants must provide proof of class requirements and total hours; for minors, a valid school ID is required; a mask fit test may be requested by the Clinic Manager.
Participants are not permitted to miss school to complete required shadowing hours or to shadow parents/guardians or relatives.
Transportation to the observation site is the responsibility of the participant or parent/guardian.
This agreement must be signed by the participant and parent/guardian before participation in the shadowing experience; both acknowledge releasing the site and La Clínica from liability for injuries or losses.
Health Clearance, Privacy and Safety Health clearance requirements include immunization records, with seasonally appropriate vaccines, and TB or chest radiograph clearing within specified timeframes.
Volunteer clearance for 18+ requires a background check, matching name on application/resume and ID (ID must be valid). Sign and complete all necessary forms.
Minors require a signed parent/guardian consent form; no background check is required for minors; a valid school ID and mask fit test may be requested.
Confidentiality: Do not disclose PHI. Follow privacy guidelines, log off devices when not in use, dispose of confidential documents securely, and keep information locked when not in use. If unsure, consult your supervisor. Violation may result in dismissal.
Equipment and electronic media: use for work purposes; personal use should be limited.
Child and elder abuse reporting: report suspected abuse to your supervisor; records are confidential.
Safety and security: follow safety rules, report concerns to your supervisor, know safety protocols, and be aware of emergency procedures and evacuation routes. Seek first aid as needed.
Dress Code Present yourself professionally and respectfully. Follow supervisor guidance for appropriate attire.
Maintain good personal hygiene; avoid open-toed shoes in clinical areas; avoid offensive or inappropriate clothing (shorts, tank tops, see-through/revealing clothing, spandex, high heels over 2 inches).
Confidentiality and Professional Conduct As a shadow, you may have access to confidential information about La Clínica de La Raza’s employees, volunteers, or patients. Treat PHI with care and follow guidelines for confidentiality and security. If you are unsure of obligations, consult your supervisor.
