Position Summary The Director of Development and Communications provides strategic leadership, vision, and implementation of the organization’s fund development, marketing, and communications programs. This position is responsible for designing and executing a comprehensive fundraising plan encompassing annual giving, corporate and foundation relations, special events, and government grants, while leading all internal and external communications to strengthen the organization’s visibility and brand.

Working closely with the Executive Director and Board of Directors, the Director serves as the staff liaison to the Board Philanthropy Committee and collaborates with leadership to advance donor relations, community partnerships, and public engagement. The Director also oversees communications and marketing efforts, including media relations, website management, newsletters, and social media.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Development and Fundraising Leadership

Develop and implement an integrated fund development plan that includes individual giving, corporate sponsorships, foundation and government grants, and community fundraising events.

Oversee all aspects of grant management—research, proposal writing, submission, and reporting—and ensure compliance with funding requirements.

Serve as staff lead for all fundraising events, including the organization’s annual gala and other campaigns; manage sponsor recruitment and donor cultivation activities.

Maintain accurate and timely donor and grant records in Raiser’s Edge (or similar CRM), ensuring data integrity, tracking, and reporting of development metrics.

Support and guide the Executive Director and Board in cultivating and soliciting major gifts and partnerships.

Supervise development staff and vendors providing fundraising, marketing, or grant‑writing services.

Prepare, monitor, and manage the development budget, ensuring alignment with annual goals.

Board and Committee Engagement

Serve as staff liaison to the Board Philanthropy Committee, preparing meeting materials, reports, and presentations.

Collaborate closely with the Executive Director and Board members to align fundraising and communications strategies with the organization’s mission and priorities.

Provide regular development updates and analysis to the Executive Director and Board of Directors.

Communications and Marketing

Lead and implement a comprehensive communications strategy that enhances the organization’s brand, visibility, and community presence.

Oversee the design, content, and maintenance of the website, digital newsletters, social media channels, and marketing materials.

Manage the production of publications such as the Annual Report and donor communications.

Coordinate media relations, press releases, and public statements to ensure consistent messaging and positive visibility.

Support internal communications and promote organizational culture through consistent branding and storytelling.

Develop and enforce brand standards across all materials, ensuring message alignment and professional presentation.

Community Relations and Outreach

Build and maintain relationships with donors, sponsors, corporate partners, government agencies, and community stakeholders.

Represent the organization at community events, donor meetings, and public speaking engagements.

Develop and implement strategies to broaden and strengthen community engagement and philanthropic support.

Qualifications Education

• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred (communications, nonprofit management, marketing, or related field).

Experience

Minimum of five years of progressive experience in development, fundraising, or communications, preferably within the nonprofit sector.

Proven success in donor cultivation, sponsorship solicitation, and grant management, including research, writing, and reporting.

Experience leading communications and marketing efforts, including digital campaigns, media relations, and brand management.

Experience managing staff, consultants, and volunteers.

Proficiency in Raiser’s Edge or comparable donor database required (or willingness to learn).

Skills and Abilities

Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to inspire and motivate others.

Strong strategic planning, organizational, and analytical abilities.

Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.

Demonstrated creativity, initiative, and resourcefulness in achieving fundraising and communications goals.

High level of professionalism, discretion, and integrity.

Bilingual proficiency is a plus.

Work Environment and Schedule

Hybrid work option (combination of office, home, and community-based work).

Must be able to work occasionally evenings and weekends for events and donor activities.

Must have reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, and insurance.

Compensation

$100,000- $120,000 annual salary
