An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience in a higher education setting is preferred.
Job Description Summary: The University of South Alabama's Marketing and Communications department is seeking to hire an Assistant Director, Creative Services. Interested candidates should apply to be considered.
Essential Functions
- Directs, designs, produces and oversees the printing of various campus communications, including collaborating with the team on editorial concepts, design concepts, creation of final layout, and assigning and scheduling photographers.
- Collaborates with campus offices and division staff members to develop, design, and produce publications and printed materials that communicate the activities of campus clients.
- Exercises independent design judgement to ensure that University marketing and communications materials include content and communications deemed important by campus leadership and meet best-practice standards for professional design.
- Reviews logo and color usage for compliance with overall marketing and branding guidelines.
- Evaluates content, design, and photography of all University marketing and communications to ensure consistent quality and integrity of communications.
- Manages relationships with printers regarding billing, scheduling, and specifications.
- Works directly with vendors on all phases of the process, from bidding to final production.
- Checks proofs, evaluates color corrections and attends press checks (when appropriate).
- Collaborates with the Director of Creative Services to develop best practice strategies for creation and design of marketing materials, advertising, print publications, signage, branding materials and electronic communications.
- Helps manage one graphic designer, student workers, and freelancers, ensuring their contributions meet project objectives, quality standards, branding guidelines, and deadlines.
- Collaborates with the University photographer and videographer as well as freelance photographers on projects.
- Provides photography services when appropriate and/or necessary.
- Collaborates with preferred print vendors, providing guidance and direction of all University print, electronic and visual identity materials.
- Collaborates with vendors, photographers, designers, and other creative services to ensure quality and timely production of all print, advertising, and multimedia materials.
- Reviews and approves proofs of printed copy, art, and other communications and marketing materials developed by staff members.
- Helps manage the licensing portal (Affinity), approving or rejecting designs designs submitted by external vendors for production.
- Acts as liaison for the creative team on Week of Welcome and Homecoming committees.
- Regular and prompt attendance.
- Ability to work schedule as defined and additional hours as required.
- Related duties as required.
