Position Summary At PROENERGY, we emphasize a ONE‑TEAM approach where our Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Start‑Up, Document Controls, and Operations teams work seamlessly for our clients as a solutions provider for the power industry. We are seeking a Variable Senior Mechanical Designer reporting directly to the Director of Design and Technology as we continue to build our in‑house EPC engineering and design team. This designer will focus on routing pipe and modeling equipment but also contribute to creating guidelines and procedures. The position is temporary and expected to last 8‑12 months. It will be in person at our Kansas City office location in Leawood, KS, or remote/hybrid depending on experience level.

Essential Job Functions

Leads the projects mechanical design including client‑facing meetings and will manage scope, budget, and schedule for electrical design on projects you are assigned to, inclusive of executing management.

Design and route piping systems, layouts or model 3D equipment items for power plant systems including simple cycle gas balance of plant systems.

Create templates, layouts, specifications, catalogs, lists and smart metadata in Plant 3D.

Plan and develop drawings for production work including problem analysis, design layout and calculations.

Understand and develop the capability of quality checking in the 3D models for interferences and constructability optimizations.

Resolve comments on checked drawings; understand and implement the comments made.

Complete as‑builts by utilizing RFIs, ECNs and red‑marked drawings from construction to develop “Conformed to Construction Records” as required.

Seek ways to improve customer satisfaction, the quality of the work product, and operating efficiencies.

Help develop, review, and implement guidelines and procedures to ensure design standardization and templating of our PowerFLX work.

Stay up to date with the latest technology and industry practices and find practical applications.

Interpret and incorporate design codes and specifications related to design requirements.

Check design for consistency, safety, operability, quality and maintenance requirements before submitting to checking.

Advanced understanding of piping layouts and field drawings.

Required Qualifications

Associate degree in drafting technology, design or related fields or High School Diploma with relevant coursework/experience.

Eight (8) years of experience in related work experience.

Ability to utilize both 2D and 3D applications to prepare engineering drawings.

Advanced understanding of design software such as E3D, Plant 3D, Smartplant 3D, AutoCAD, MicroStation, and Excel to develop design deliverables. Ability to learn and effectively utilize new design software programs.

Participates in team environment effectively. Accepts direction from the team. Individually contributes to the success of the team.

Supports project teams and departments in a positive and productive manner. Works well with others to accomplish common goals and objectives.

Able to manage multiple responsibilities and tasks with set expectations.

Comfortable with change and ambiguity; adaptable, collaborative and a systems thinker.

Proactively provides guidance and direction on department design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes.

Ability to work collaboratively with others including, but not limited to Project Managers, Engineers, Designers and constructability personnel in a multi‑disciplined project team environment to resolve design or drawing issues as appropriate and to accomplish our goals.

Perform work safely and effectively. Understand and follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment use, and other policies.

Work during normal operating hours to organize and complete work within given deadlines. Work overtime and weekends as required.

Advanced Piping or Mechanical modeling Experience in EPC Power Industry.

Desired Qualifications

Aconex Document Controls software knowledge.

Clear understanding of construction and constructability practices & principles.

Working knowledge of technical aspects of the proposal and estimate process.

Owner or Client engineering background.
