Overview
Teacher - Music: Vocal/Instrumental/General, Gr. K-8 (Long Term Substitute) (SY25-26) Boston Public Schools seeks an exceptional Music Teacher who is highly qualified to join our community. This is a long-term substitute position expected to start immediately and end at the end of the school year. Substitutes are hired as per diem subs, even when placed in long-term assignments, at the per diem pay rate. For information about becoming a BPS sub, refer to the BPS careers page. Reports to: Principal/Head of School Responsibilities
Teach Music for grades K-8 (Vocal/Instrumental/General). Apply the Rubric of Effective Teaching; prioritize student achievement and engagement, with high expectations for all learners. Set ambitious learning goals, create cognitively demanding tasks, and model the belief that all students can master challenging material. Assess students regularly; adjust instruction to meet goals and address setbacks. Demonstrate passion for the content, the teaching profession, and students. Convey content in engaging, standards-aligned ways and connect it to real-world contexts and other subjects. Scaffold and differentiate instruction to support diverse learners; foster equitable, active participation. Create and maintain a respectful, productive classroom environment where every student participates. Engage with families respectfully to support student learning. Engage in reflective practice and collaborate with colleagues to support professional growth. Qualifications
Required
Bachelor’s degree. Valid Massachusetts Teaching License in Music (All Levels). Meet state and federal guidelines to be fully licensed and Highly Qualified (as applicable). Ability to meet Boston Public Schools’ Standards of Effective Teaching. Current authorization to work in the United States by the first day of employment. Preferred
Experience teaching in urban schools. Fluency in one of BPS’s official languages (Spanish, Creole (Cape Verdean/Haitian), Chinese, Vietnamese, Portuguese, Somali) is valued. Certification in subject area with one or both of the following: Moderate Disabilities, English as a Second Language (at appropriate grade levels). Terms and Compensation
