Library Assistant Security Supervisor (Library Security Supervisor – Contributing)

Primary Purpose of Position

The Library Assistant Security Supervisor works under the direction of the Library Security Director to assist in the operation of the various components of the library's security program. The program encompasses the library's security officers, video surveillance equipment, card access, and intrusion alarms. This position provides daily building patrol services for the library, serves as responder for building fire alarms, facilities disasters & medical emergencies, and acts as a service point contact between professional staff and Library Security Officer staff.

Minimum Education / Experience

• High School diploma or equivalent and one year of experience in security, enforcement, or protection work.
• Valid N.C. driver's license.

Essential Job Duties

• Report directly to the Library Security Director and serve as a service point contact between Library staff and the security team.
• Assist in the operation of the library's security program, including security personnel, video surveillance, card access, and intrusion alarms.
• Patrol the building daily and support the Building Operations team in identifying issues.
• Respond to building fire alarms, facilities disasters, and medical emergencies.
• Assist in scheduling temporary Library Security Officers, serve as liaison to Campus Police, and perform administration duties of the library’s Security Office.
• Communicate with students, faculty, staff, and the public in a courteous, tactful, and effective manner, encouraging compliance with guidelines, policies, and standards.

Other Work Responsibilities

• Computer skills required: word processing, spreadsheets, Google Docs, and ability to learn new applications.
• This position involves walking and climbing stairs.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

At least 5 years of law enforcement or security related experience and/or completion of Basic Law Enforcement training or equivalent. Good interpersonal and communication skills, and ability to work independently are essential.

Licenses or Certifications

• Valid N.C. driver's license.
