Responsibilities
- Provides vision and direction of the library and media services to campus and community constituents in alignment with the college’s mission and strategic plan.
- Oversees library systems, reference services, information literacy instruction, interlibrary loan services, collections, course reserves, and related functions to inform and support library patrons.
- Actively educates and promotes the delivery of library and media resources to students, faculty, and staff to foster learning, teaching, scholarship, research, and programming.
- Serves as the primary contact for the online bookstore, assisting in identifying and securing required student materials.
- Serves as an advocate for student success by orienting students to the library and determining their learning needs in providing appropriate and relevant journal literature and library resources.
- Partners with external groups, including the National Library of Medicine, State Library of Iowa, and other library organizations to provide effective access to library information and services.
- Cultivates and facilitates innovative partnerships between the library, its affiliates, and library-related groups for mutual information‑sharing and collaboration.
- Hires, supervises, and evaluates staff to ensure optimal performance with ongoing professional development.
- Develops the annual budget, monitors expenditures, and identifies capital resources. Works with college leaders to identify potential capital and capacity needs related to library designs, student study spaces, shelving, collections, audiovisual, and computing equipment.
- Assists the college with fundraising, grant proposals, and related campaigns to enhance the library infrastructure and resources.
- Provides guidance on copyright, social media, and compliance related to library use and access, promoting a culture of continuous improvement by anticipating and preparing for evolving needs of the library and media services.
Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- M. L. S. from an American Library Association accredited program (Master’s degree).
- Demonstrated record of relevant, management experience in an academic library.
- Three years’ experience in administration of library operations and services.
- Demonstrated understanding and commitment to the needs of a diverse population and varied student needs.
- Experience using technologies, including distance‑education technologies, to provide and enhance library services and their changing role in higher education.
- Professional involvement within academic and health‑science librarianship preferred.
- Experience working with networked information and database management preferred.
