Job Summary

The PHP Web Developer III is responsible for the creation and implementation of a wide variety of web‑based products and applications using PHP, JavaScript, CSS, DHTML, AJAX, JQUERY, and MySQL with minimal supervision. This position requires an experienced, initiative‑taking, multitasking individual who is excited about learning and developing solid solutions for the organization’s next generation web platforms. The role collaborates with departmental leaders to translate complex business initiatives into innovative solutions while energizing and working with cross‑functional teams.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design and work with MySQL tables and queries.
  • Develop modular, reusable code that is scalable and optimized.
  • Conduct unit and end‑to‑end testing as well as stress tests and performance tuning.
  • Integrate third‑party software and toolsets through documented SDKs.
  • Document system changes, problems, and communications.
  • Investigate, analyze, and recommend technology improvements, upgrades, and modifications.
  • Manage workloads and meet project scopes, deadlines, and schedules.
  • Ensure a consistent look and feel across all web sites, promoting uniform fonts, formatting, icons, images, layout, and creating appropriate templates for content authors.
  • Administer website permissions for end users who require access to edit content.
  • Perform other related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.

Required Skills and Abilities

  • 5-8 years of experience designing and implementing well‑documented, efficient PHP 7.x+ code.
  • Ability to properly scope projects to turn business processes into efficient code.
  • Experience with peer code review for accuracy and efficiency.
  • Experience using documented third‑party APIs and creating API endpoints for third‑party consumption.
  • Responsive CSS design using templates and frameworks.
  • Experience creating and using MySQL databases and optimized SQL queries.
  • Experience with LAMP technologies (Linux/Apache/MySQL/PHP).
  • Experience with front‑end tools such as JavaScript, CSS and jQuery.
  • Excellent debugging and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to develop and troubleshoot complex software systems that run in mixed environments including Linux, Unix and/or Windows.
  • Experience with Git and code versioning.
  • Strong organizational skills for file management with a variety of file types.
  • Strong analytical and teamwork skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Skills and Abilities

  • B.S. or B.A. degree in Computer Science preferred or equivalent work experience.
  • 5-8 years of experience in internet web authoring or related experience.
  • CMS, NodeJS, React, WordPress, GitHub, and PHP Storm experience would be a plus.
  • Experience with large databases and commercial web sites.
  • Experience using web development IDEs (e.g., JetBrains).
  • Good understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives.

Physical Requirements

General office/remote work setting; employee may sit comfortably at a computer terminal with short breaks. The job may require bending, stooping, reaching above shoulder level, walking, standing, and carrying light items up to 25 pounds. Ability to communicate clearly using a phone/headset is required.

Remote or Telecommute Status

Position is Hybrid remote – four days in office.
