The Media Design Unit at Hostos offers four majors: Digital Design, Animation, Digital Music, and Game Design. Through a rigorous combination of lecture and studio-based coursework, the Digital Design & Animation Program equips students with a solid foundation for careers in graphic design, animation, and motion graphics. The curriculum emphasizes hands‑on experience with industry‑standard technology and media, fostering the artistic and technical skills needed to analyze, plan, and develop effective visual solutions to communication challenges.
The Media Arts and Design Unit of the Humanities Department at Hostos Community College/CUNY seeks a creative, experienced, and industry‑engaged educator for a full‑time Lecturer position in Animation, beginning Spring 2026.
The College is looking for a specialist in animation, motion graphics and kinetic typography, with a strong foundation in 2D and 3D animation, to lead and develop coursework that prepares students for professional careers in the fast‑evolving fields of animation, motion graphics, and digital storytelling. The ideal candidate will bring significant industry experience and a deep understanding of how type, movement, design, and narrative come together to drive compelling visual communication.
This is a teaching‑focused position for candidates passionate about mentoring students and bridging classroom learning with real‑world creative practices. The successful candidate will help shape a forward‑thinking animation curriculum that supports career readiness in media production, advertising, broadcast design, entertainment, and other motion‑based creative industries.
This is a Lecturer position. Lecturers are eligible for a Certificate of Continuous Employment (CCE) after five years of successful service. This is an on‑campus/in‑person role.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform teaching and other related duties as those associated for a faculty member
Teach undergraduate courses in 2D/3D animation, motion graphics, kinetic typography, and related topics
Integrate industry‑relevant tools, workflows, and expectations into the classroom
Develop and update curriculum that aligns with contemporary animation and motion design practices
Guide students in building strong portfolios and demo reels focused on real‑world applications
Collaborate with faculty and staff on program development and interdisciplinary initiatives
Advise and mentor students pursuing careers in animation, broadcast media, advertising, and design
Participate in department and College service activities
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's in Fine Arts or area(s) of expertise, and the ability to teach successfully.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree (MFA, MA, or equivalent) in Animation, Motion Graphics, Digital Media, or related field
5+ years of professional experience in animation, motion design, or a closely related industry role
Strong professional portfolio highlighting motion graphics, kinetic typography, and visual storytelling for media
Expertise in tools such as Adobe After Effects, Premiere Pro, Illustrator, Photoshop, Cinema 4D, Blender, or Maya
Demonstrated experience teaching in higher education, especially within diverse and urban student populations
Commitment to student‑centered pedagogy and inclusive teaching practices
Familiarity with curriculum development and industry partnerships
COMPENSATION
$76,658 - $81,688; Salary commensurate with education and experience.
