Lecturer - Animation & Motion Graphics

The Media Arts and Design Unit of the Humanities Department at Hostos Community College/CUNY seeks a full‑time Lecturer position in Animation, beginning Spring 2026. This teaching‑focused role is ideal for candidates passionate about mentoring students and bridging classroom learning with real‑world creative practices.

Responsibilities

  • Perform teaching and other related duties as a faculty member.
  • Teach undergraduate courses in 2D/3D animation, motion graphics, kinetic typography, and related topics.
  • Integrate industry‑relevant tools, workflows, and expectations into the classroom.
  • Develop and update curriculum that aligns with contemporary animation and motion design practices.
  • Guide students in building strong portfolios and demo reels focused on real‑world applications.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff on program development and interdisciplinary initiatives.
  • Advise and mentor students pursuing careers in animation, broadcast media, advertising, and design.
  • Participate in department and College service activities.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s in Fine Arts or area(s) of expertise, and the ability to teach successfully.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree (MFA, MA, or equivalent) in Animation, Motion Graphics, Digital Media, or related field.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in animation, motion design, or a closely related industry role.
  • Strong professional portfolio highlighting motion graphics, kinetic typography, and visual storytelling for media.
  • Expertise in tools such as Adobe After Effects, Premiere Pro, Illustrator, Photoshop, Cinema 4D, Blender, or Maya.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching in higher education, especially within diverse and urban student populations.
  • Commitment to student‑centered pedagogy and inclusive teaching practices.
  • Familiarity with curriculum development and industry partnerships.

Compensation

$76,658 – $81,688; salary commensurate with education and experience. CUNY offers a competitive compensation and benefits package covering health insurance, pension and retirement benefits, paid parental leave, and savings programs.
