As a producer on The Daily you will help shape those stories, working with Times journalists and external talent to create compelling, immersive audio that serves the public conversation.

Strong candidates will have solid experience in audio production with a preference for long‑form audio. You should have a proven track record in structuring, guiding, and cutting host‑guest interviews; in live‑producing recording sessions; and in working with session tape, archival tape and music scoring. Experience pitching show ideas built around Times journalism and other audio‑centered original concepts is essential. Thoughtful news sensibilities and a passion for the news will help you thrive on a daily, rapidly evolving show.

Responsibilities

  • Follow the news and pitch episode ideas to the team.
  • Build and maintain relationships with Times reporters and editors.
  • Participate in pre‑interviews with reporters and sources.
  • Work with editors and senior producers on scripting and structuring episodes.
  • Participate in episode tapings and help keep sessions on schedule.
  • Create post‑production plans and produce clean drafts of episodes – scenes, narration, scoring, etc.
  • Incorporate edits on episodes quickly and with grace.
  • Close episodes the night before publication as part of a regular rotation.
  • Support the team’s commitment to journalistic independence and the company’s mission.
  • Work efficiently in a high‑pressure environment.
  • Report to the show’s executive producer.
  • Work in the New York City office four days per week; some flexibility for remote work per guidance.

Basic Qualifications

  • At least 3+ years’ experience in audio production, preferably with long‑form audio.
  • Strong experience in news.
  • Fluency in ProTools and audio production concepts.
  • Experience generating and presenting pitches on deadline.
  • Experience constructing long‑form audio and scripting interviews.
  • Experience researching, selecting, and cutting raw tape, including interviews, archival, and newsreel.
